The strongest supporting bout matches Visioli with Hughes at lightweight. Visioli has advanced rapidly through eleven professional fights, while Hughes brings far greater experience against high-level opposition.
Two defeats earlier this year damaged Hughes’ position. Both fights came on short notice, and one required him to move above his natural weight. Returning to lightweight gives the 36-year-old a better opportunity to show how much he has left.
Visioli refuses to treat Hughes as a faded opponent despite their difference in age.
“For us, our team hasn’t thought that he’s over the hill at all. We’ve just been offered the fight, and we’ve taken it. We’re going to train fully prepared and think he’s still there,” Visioli said during Wednesday’s Matchroom press conference.
