WWE veteran Kevin Nash defends AJ Styles’ son, Avery Styles, over the recent controversy, saying the Phenomenal One paid his dues for him.

Following Avery Styles’ recent match in GCW, WWE’s Nattie praised him in an interview, saying he wants to pay his dues rather than use his father, AJ Styles’ stardom, to get ahead. However, independent wrestler Arik Cannon publicly disputed her comments. Cannon claimed he watched Avery avoid helping set up chairs and tear down the ring.

AJ Styles himself responded to Arik Cannon, and several wrestling personalities also came to Avery Styles’ defense. Now, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has also joined the list, and he shared his thoughts on the latest episode of his Kliq This podcast. He blasted Cannon for making such comments despite never making it to any big promotions, and also took a shot at him for being only 5’7 and 210 lbs.

“Number one, Arik Cannon, they just retired AJ, and he’s got a job with f*****g NXT. So, I don’t know, if you know how this whole business works, but man, there’s only so many bridges, and if you burn three of the six, and you haven’t been anywhere for 10 years, I mean, there’s a reason you’re setting up the ring, motherf****r. I never set up a ring in my f*****g career,” the WWE legend said. “You should be happy to be at 5’7. You should be happy to be putting up the ring. I never was asked to put up the ring.”

Kevin Nash says setting up a ring is not a job for inexperienced wrestlers

“You know, there are people in this business that have done, and the WWE referees are renowned for this. And to this day, I’m almost sure that (Charles) Robinson still helps put up and take down the ring. I mean, if he’s not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, you can take me out. There’s always going to be a Charles, and there’s always going to be eight or nine or 10 guys that are going to, like, it’s so important for that ring to be put together properly, for those ropes to be put together properly. It’s not a chore,” Kevin Nash continued.

“Not like being a young boy at the dojo and lacing the boots of the old-time Japanese wrestlers. It’s not a tradition. This is a very intricate, if not the most intricate part of the apparatus that we do the art form that we call pro wrestling on a weekly basis.

“And god forbid if AJ’s kid tightens a rope too much or doesn’t tighten a rope too much, it causes somebody to get injured. Because it’s AJ’s kid, put the heat on him. So, doesn’t it make more sense for AJ’s kid to not be a part of that process and just be part of the process on the canvas?”

Kevin Nash says AJ Styles already paid the dues for his son

Speaking further, Kevin Nash said that, being an industry veteran, AJ Styles has already paid the dues for his son. However, he also feels Avery Styles is paying his dues on the canvas, where it matters.

“I think AJ paid enough dues to where his son’s piggy bank is full. To me, it’s just like AJ’s (son) not going to sign long term with Game Changer Wrestling. He’s starting there. If he was at NXT getting a push right out of the shoot, which, if he was my kid, he would. I mean, he’s paying his dues. He’s at some place where, during the night, somebody’s going to grab a fluorescent light tube and have some death match…. He’s paying his dues on the canvas. That’s where you pay your dues, man.

“Canon puts a really poor light on him. And you know, in the old days, if he got brought up, somebody like Robbie (Rick) Steiner would sugar the f**k out of him… I don’t know the dude, and I promise I won’t go out of my way to. But I guess if some 5’7 guy charges me, I’ll say, ‘Watch the boot.’

Kevin Nash also agreed with co-host Steve Kaufmann, who brought up Cody Rhodes’ perspective on the situation. The former Undisputed WWE Champion shared the same view, stating that AJ Styles had already paid the dues for his son.
