Shan Masood made an unbeaten 88 in his first Test innings since being relieved of the captaincy to put Pakistan in a strong position at stumps Sunday on the second day of the first Test against West Indies.
Masood shared a 155-run partnership with Imam-ul-Haq as Pakistan recovered from the loss of an early wicket to reach 199-3 in reply to West Indies’ first innings of 311 all out before bad light stopped play for the second day in a row.
Imam-ul-Haq scored 63 and Masood was briefly joined by new captain Babar Azam who made 23 before falling within sight of stumps. Salman Agha then faced nine balls without scoring before umpires ruled the light was too poor to continue.

Earlier, Shai Hope hit 92 and Kavem Hodge scored 84 as West Indies reached 311 after resuming at 194-3.
Hodge added only one run to his overnight score of 83 before being caught at second slip in the third over of the day, ending a 91-run partnership with Hope.
Hope resumed at 39 not out and went on to his seventh half century from 113 balls. After Hodge was out, Hope shared quick partnerships with Justin Greaves (15), Roston Chase (10) and Shamar Joseph (23) before his was the ninth West Indies wicket to fall.
Chase came into the match with a finger injury and didn’t bowl during the Pakistan innings.
Pakistan played its way back into the match when its seamers took four wickets in an extended session as play began half an hour before its scheduled 10 a.m. start to make up for Saturday’s rain-hit day.
Hope was dropped on 51 by Azan Awais at first slip but went on after that escape to marshal the lower order.
Joseph smashed his 23 with four boundaries and a six over long on off Mohammad Abbas as West Indies counterattacked the second new ball.
Khurram Shahzad provided Pakistan with an early breakthrough when he found the outside edge of Hodge’s bat in his second over and Agha held the catch in the slips.
Greaves struck three boundaries before Mohammad Ali was rewarded for all his hard work when he induced an outside edge from a delivery that swung away from the right-hander and gave the medium fast bowler his first wicket of the innings.
Abbas, who was held back by captain Babar until Pakistan took the second new ball, struck immediately by having captain Chase caught behind for 10.
Mohammad Ali finished with 4-50 and Abbas took 3-63.
Pakistan’s reply started poorly when Awais was bowled by Kemar Roach in his second over.
From then on Masood and Imam-ul-Haq dominated the West Indies attack, hurrying to a 100-run partnership from 107 balls.
Masood reached his half century from only 46 balls with nine fours, while Imam-ul-Haq got his 11th Test half century from 81 deliveries.
