Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain a star-studded West Zone squad in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, with Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan returning to the fold after being named in the 15-member squad.
The squad, announced on Monday, has a strong Mumbai flavour, with seven players from the association making the cut. Shams Mulani has been named vice-captain, while all-rounder Shardul Thakur and spinner Tanush Kotian further bolster the side’s balance.
Harvik Desai and Urvil Patel have been picked as the two wicketkeepers. Harvik, who represents Saurashtra, is likely to provide stability behind the stumps, while Gujarat’s Urvil adds an attacking option with the bat.
The batting unit features Shaw, Shivalik Sharma, Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Jaymeet Patel and Siddharth Desai alongside skipper Gaikwad, giving the selectors a mix of experience and youth.
The pace attack will be spearheaded by Shardul, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Chaudhary and Baroda’s Atit Seth, while Mulani and Kotian provide spin-bowling options as capable all-rounders.
