Carl Froch has assessed the chances of Conor Benn pulling off a sizable upset against Ryan Garcia, who he is expected to face in September. Their welterweight showdown was reportedly set to be announced on Friday, with Dana White inviting both fighters to the stage at a UFC weigh-in. According to boxing journalist Dan Rafael, however, there are still some issues that must be ironed out on Garcia’s side, which concern the involvement of DAZN and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy. Benn, meanwhile, has reportedly completed his side of the agreement to challenge for Garcia’s WBC world title in…

Messi has taken penalties in World Cup finals, Copa America finals and Champions League knockout ties. He has taken Argentina’s opening penalty in nine shootouts, converting seven, with his only misses coming against Chile in the 2016 Copa America final and Ecuador in the 2024 Copa América quarter-final.Perhaps that explains why Lionel Scaloni has shown no inclination to make a change. Asked directly on the eve of Argentina’s quarter-final against Switzerland whether Messi should remain on penalties, the Argentina coach offered an unequivocal answer.”First of all, Leo will take penalties if he wants to,” Scaloni said. “We have other players…

Gassiev and Kadiru then went face-to-face for the final time before the main event. Gassiev is making the first defence of the WBA heavyweight title he won by stopping Kubrat Pulev in…

Sections of the Rangers support have long called on the club to recruit the Premiership’s best talent, and the club appear to be acting on that this summer. Both Shankland and Devlin were among Hearts’ standout players as they came within minutes of a historic Scottish top-flight triumph. The Ibrox club have signed both without needing to pay a transfer fee and have also plucked manager McInnes from Tynecastle.”Cammy is obviously a player I know, and I am well aware of what he will offer to Rangers,” the new Ibrox boss said.”His levels of consistency for me were superb, and he is…

Morning all. A quick Saturday round-up for you, and there’s only one place to start and that’s the world’s hottest striker, Mikel Merino, doing it again for Spain last night. Just as he did against Portugal earlier in the week, he came off the bench to save us all from injury time in a game that wasn’t particularly enthralling. Spain went ahead in the first half through Fabian Ruiz, but a really nice header from Charlie Kettle drew Belgium level before the break.
