Andy Flower has ruled himself out of the running to replace Brendon McCullum as head coach of the England Test team.McCullum was sacked from the red-ball role earlier this month following a run of poor form and a number of controversial off-field incidents, but he remains in charge of the England white-ball set-up.Flower was England head coach from 2009 to 2014 and helped the team to win the Ashes on three occasions, including their last away win in 2010-11, before leaving after a 5-0 series defeat in Australia. The Zimbabwean is head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and led them…
Davies believes Joshua needs a statement win on July 25 to strengthen his position before a potential Tyson Fury showdown Anthony Joshua’s July 25 comeback carries bigger stakes than simply beating Kristian Prenga, according to Gareth A. Davies. He believes Joshua must deliver a dominant performance to build momentum toward a Tyson Fury fight. “I think if he gets knocked down or he looks too stiff or he doesn’t look fluid enough or he doesn’t look like the destroyer he is, I think he’s got a massive opportunity to project himself towards the Fury fight in my view here against…
The way England’s run at this World Cup ended was desperately disappointing, but there are still plenty of positives for them to take away from the tournament.I’ve co-commentated on all of their games and my most memorable moment has to be their epic win over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium in the last 16. It was the best game of the tournament, at the best stadium and with the best atmosphere.I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed togetherness or team spirit like that before, either. That’s why I described it as the best team performance I’ve seen from any England side…

Oleksandr Usyk is in the market for an opponent for his retirement fight, and UFC legend Jon Jones is one name that has been reported as an option. Usyk’s last outing was met with criticism both before and after the event, as the then unified heavyweight ruler faced 1-0-recorded Rico Verhoeven, only for Verhoeven to provide a much tougher test than anticipated before being controversially stopped in round 11. The Ukrainian great has opted to vacate all three of his heavyweight belts, but has said that he will remain in the sport for one ‘last dance’ before retirement. Deontay Wilder…
Sir Chris Hoy has fond memories of the Commonwealth Games and is convinced the Glasgow event, which starts next week, will be a “massive success” despite a scaled-down format. The stripped-back configuration features 10 sports, using just four venues in the city, with a budget of around £150m.The 2014 Games in Glasgow included 18 different sports and cost more than £550m to stage.”Twelve years ago, it was an incredible event and I’m sure Glasgow is going to put on a fantastic show,” cycling great Hoy told BBC Breakfast.”I think it will be an amazing Games we will all remember.”Running from 23…
Jude Bellingham shares a beautiful letter written by England’s coach driver, Michael Chandler, after their exit from the World Cup. It includes a poem, titled ‘The Lions Way’, sharing a poignant message which the squad and the staff can take in as they deal with the heartbreak of missing out on a place in the final. England had taken the lead through Anthony Gordon on 55 minutes, but Argentina hit back late on with two goals to book a place with Spain for a chance to lift the trophy, while England and France battle for a third place finish. On…
Tim Tszyu had no interest in objecting when Errol Spence Jr. asked to raise the contracted weight for their July 26 fight in Sydney from 158 pounds to the middleweight limit of 160. Tszyu said he agreed immediately because he wants to face the best version of the former unified welterweight champion, not one weakened by the scales. “I just wanted him here. I wanted the fight to happen. I’m not a diva. It’s whatever, man, whatever. I’m an easy guy,” said Tszyu to Ring Magazine. “I just don’t want any excuses. I want him here, refreshed, rejuvenated, make sure…
The year is 2010. A Spain side stacked with star names have sneaked their way into the World Cup final, where they ultimately triumph in a bruising encounter against the Netherlands with an extra-time Andres Iniesta winner.Fast forward 16 years and a more under-the-radar, but equally efficient, Spain team have again reached football’s showpiece. The names may not trip off the tongue as smoothly as they did before, but Luis de la Fuente’s current contingent are driven to match the achievement of the country’s golden generation and lift the trophy for a second time on Sunday, 19 July.Certain parallels are evident.Take…
