7th tier club Gosport Borough issue an update as they continue to ‘reinvent itself in order to pave the way to a self sustainable future’.

In 2017, Gosport were taken over by former Portsmouth chairman Iain McInnes and has gone on to save the club from the brink.

Now he has given an update, from stabilising the club’s future to how to make it more self sustainable for many years to come.

A statement on the club website read:

Experience The BORO’ – And Make Your Own Minds Up

With the New Season just around the corner, we caught up with Gosport Borough’s Chairman who sends an update message to every BORO’ fan, supporter & partner

    1. The Journey So Far…

Crikey what a difference a few years make… We look back to 2017 when I was approached and decided to answer the call to help reinvent Gosport Borough FC… and with the club perilously close to going out of business the task was probably under stated… as is often the case… but take on the challenge we did.

The first few years were all about stabilisation… and we are still here so that must have worked… thank goodness!

    2. What Now?

The Club at the moment can only survive through my personal investment which is not sustainable and it needs to reinvent itself with a workable and realistic business plan / financial model.

So reinvent the Club we will…

    3. The Football Comes First…

Before anything else we are a Football Club… and an Ambitious One to Boot!

Gosport needs a successful Football Club… The Community needs a team to get behind and be proud of…the local passion deserves it.

For the coming season 2026/27… We have engaged and secured a management team that frankly is second to none….only time and results will endorse our decisions…but if ever there was a time to be optimistic… surely it is now.

In Simon, Jermaine, Perry and Mick we trust … a more experienced management team is hard to imagine.
Our fingers are well and truly crossed.

    4. A Stadium and Matchday Experience to Enjoy…

A venue that sets the benchmark at this level and above for Non League Football… a venue the envy of our competitors.

After countless years of underinvestment, our vision is clear and our commitment is true.

Last year we delivered in association with our local council, a playing surface that sets and meets every standard, a pitch that gives our boys a chance to showcase their talents and proudly wear the yellow and blue of Gosport Borough.

A quick ad break… the pitch is available for hire and offers a chance for aspiring talent to hone their skills …whist at the same time just enjoying themselves.

    Job Done!

    5. Investing in our Infrastructure and our Future…

This close season has been a tad busy…

The main stand was built in 1938, before it went on to be the home of GBFC in 1944…at last a roof above our heads.

Speaking of roofs that particular one after over 80 years of service needed some love….we are currently replacing the old asbestos roof with a new roof in time for the coming season

    Job Done!

    6. Clubhouse Opportunity and Seven Day A Week income…

The Club needs to be more profitable… there I’ve said it.

For too long the clubhouse / bar has come alive only on Matchdays…and as a result its contribution is limited.

Working with our new partners ‘Pitchside Hospitality’ we will turn the bar operation on it’s head and create a daytime and evening welcoming community hub that will more than compete with our long established neighbours.

If you haven’t already seen the work in progress…be prepared for the final rebirth of your clubhouse/bar…to knock your socks off!

    7. Season Tickets and Matchday Ticketing…

We launched the sale of our season ticket offering on Friday (26th)… having inevitably had to increase the ticket prices to counter general price rises.

Having said that our general ticketing offer still represents excellent value…with a big section of our fan base able to secure matchday pricing equivalent to just £6.42 per game.

Thank you in advance for your continued Amazing support.

    8. Fan Engagement and Being In Touch With Reality…

In the last couple of years a number of key local entrepreneurs have joined me in a Board Capacity to help steer the Strategic Development of the Club… which has been very welcome.

This season will see the formation of a Supporters Steering Group who will provide a viable communication conduit between the club and its fans, whilst also offering tangible help to deliver our day to day operations… I thank every well intentioned and invaluable one of them… more information to follow

I could go on… but I think you get the message.

We needed a step change and a reinvention of our Club…in order to pave the way to a self sustainable future…which will protect GBFC for the generations to come.

Every effort is being made to achieve our vision…all we can ask is for you to bear with us…support us…don’t listen to the negative conversations

Experience the BORO’ going forward and make your own minds up.

    Thank you
    Together We Are BORO’

    Iain Mcinnes
    Club Chairman
