Wolves face backlash as the way Rob Edwards found out he had been sacked is revealed, with Cesar Peixoto to replace him.
At 11:34pm on Wednesday (10 June) night, Fabrizio Romano mentioned that “Wolves agreed a deal in principle to appoint Cesar Peixoto as new head coach”.
He said that interest was “reported by O Jogo, with a verbal agreement in place and Peixoto to take over” having done an “excellent job at Gil Vicente with record results and seen among top talented young managers”.

The morning after, Pete O’Rourke (@SportsPeteO) tweeted: “Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards after agreeing deal to bring in Cesar Peixoto as his replacement. Edwards first heard of his sacking after members of his family saw rumours of Peixoto’s appointment on social media and Edwards called the club to ask about the rumours.
“In a phone call to club officials it was confirmed to Edwards he had been sacked despite playing a role in the club’s first two signings of the summer in Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez and also the new contract for Andre. #wwfc”

Excl: #Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards. Cesar Peixoto to be appointed as his replacement. This is utterly mad timing and so harsh as Edwards has been planning all summer for next season + was heavily instrumental in the signings of Trippier & Jimenez. More to follow @TeleFootball

As mentioned, Wolves face backlash as the way Rob Edwards found out he had been sacked is revealed…
@jon306: And all that good work by Nathan Shi – fan forums, new signings etc has been undone if true. Yes it’s prob the right decision, but the timing and way it’s been done if true absolutely stink. #wwfc
@Topoftheshop40: Has to be more to this surely. Nobody bats an eyelid if he was sacked end of season. To get word of our new manager before any rumours of him even being sacked is bizarre as well as unfair and disrespectful to Rob, a good servant to the club at all levels. Feel for him
@Mich41948Gibson: I am no Edwards fan. But bringing in a manager of this pedigree with no experience of this division. At this moment. Does not give me confidence. I think they have just scored an own goal. But time will tell.
@Lem_WWFC: Have some class ffs wolves
@jon306: Cannot wait for the explanation of this one from the club. Throws everything up in the air again. Atleast Rob knew the championship, this new guy probably doesn’t even know where Wolverhampton is.
@wolves1965: Really shocked at the sacking of Rob Edwards. It’s the timing of it that seems so wrong. Why didn’t they sack him immediately after the season had finished ? He seemed to be one of the driving forces in getting Andre to sign his contract. Bizarre once again from Wolves #wwfc
@BG__85: This is horrible. This isn’t any better than when Jeff Shi was here and how he treated some of the players. A great few days at the club and they behave like this
@808Slates: Looks like Rob has gone, not sure how I feel about it, 4 wks ago I would of been ready for clean break performances had dropped off. But 2 signings Tripps & Raul & new contract for Andre all qouted Rob as big influences in signing so who knows its either Nuno2.0 or Wenger2.0 #wwfc
@RyHoops83: I have some real sympathy for Rob here. Its a bold and ruthless move (yes I understand this is the football business). It could be for the betterment of Wolves but much of this makes me uneasy if I am honest #wwfc
@wwfc_rj: Wolves can’t just put out “Wolves have decided to part ways with Rob Edwards. We’d like to thank Rob for his commitment and effort”. Need a full interview with Jackson and Shi about why they’ve done it and why now. #wwfc #wolves
@leeb1977: A concern for me is that Rob knew those players, knew who he needed to get rid of and who was worth keeping. This guy doesn’t. Got a feeling he will be led by Mendes in this rebuild which doesn’t sit well. Horrible feeling some of the dross may be given a 2nd chance now #wwfc
@WithamWanderer: I honestly think we are making a big mistake. Cannot see the logic in backing the manager then sacking him. I can only see this going one way. I hope I’m wrong #wwfc #wolves
@Ajc03_: Baffles me even more this decision when Nathan ultimately has been very clear since his arrival that it’s promotion or nothing next season… This goes wrong and it won’t look good for him #WWFC
There is no sense in football
This is as ruthless as it gets.
Sure many including me had doubts whether Rob was the man for the job but we had accepted mostly that he would be given a chance to prove himself. Nathan had other ideas. Feel sorry for Rob, haven’t got a clue who this… https://t.co/gTSsi04UZg pic.twitter.com/glmFR2eXXy— Manny Singh Kang (@pedalsingh) June 11, 2026
