The first-ever Wicked Garden Match delivered exactly what TNA promised on the June 4 episode of TNA iMPACT! However, it was a disturbing scene involving Jeff Hardy at the end of the match that became the highlight of the show.
The Hardys faced The Righteous in the main event in a wild match that mixed the Broken Universe style with hardcore wrestling. The ring and ringside area were decorated with flowers, while barbed wire-covered structures surrounded the ring. With no disqualifications and no countouts, the match quickly turned into a brutal fight.
Both teams used the environment to their advantage from the start. Jeff Hardy sent Dutch crashing through a barbed-wire-covered structure, while Matt Hardy brought weapons like a gardening rake into the action.
As the match went on, all four men took heavy punishment. Vincent wrapped barbed wire around both Matt and Jeff at different points. One of the nastiest moments saw Jeff slammed face-first into a barbed-wire board.
Despite the punishment, he kept fighting. The Hardys had several moments where it looked like they might take control, including a sequence where they forced barbed wire into Dutch’s mouth.
The Righteous use a mysterious flower to gain the upper hand over The Hardys
The most bizarre moment came late in the match when Vincent pulled out a mysterious flower. After tying Jeff Hardy to the ropes with barbed wire, Vincent carefully pulled out the flower from a pouch and forced it into Jeff’s mouth.
Jeff appeared dazed almost immediately. The flower was poisonous as part of the storyline.
Things got even stranger moments later. Jeff stumbled around ringside before collapsing. He then appeared to suffer convulsions and was shown foaming at the mouth as officials rushed to help him. Medical staff brought a stretcher to ringside.
As Jeff was being treated, Vincent yelled at him, saying, “I want you to meet Lily from The Valley, Brother Nero.”
Lily of the Valley berries were famously used by Breaking Bad character Walter White in a shocking plot twist to manipulate Jesse Pinkman into turning against Gus Fring.
It looked like Jeff would not be able to continue after that.
But in typical Jeff Hardy fashion, as officials were taking him away on a stretcher, Jeff suddenly jumped up and rushed back toward the ring.
The comeback didn’t last long, though. Dutch quickly stopped him. Already weakened from everything that had happened, Jeff couldn’t recover. That gave The Righteous the opening they needed. Dutch hit Death Walks on Matt before Vincent followed with Orange Sunshine to score the victory.
After the match, The Righteous celebrated in the ring. However, the arena lights suddenly went out, and when they came back on, Matt and Jeff Hardy had disappeared.
