It’s been a truly up-and-down Western Conference Finals for Victor Wembanyama. Seemingly unable to find any consistency, “Wemby” has suppplemented elite performances with concerning ones throughout the first five games of the series. That has, naturally, led to some frustration on his part.

That frustration seemed to boil over at the end of Game 5. Wemby was seen whispering something to San Antonio Spurs teammates Mason Plumlee and Bismack Biyombo, both of whom proceeded to commit hard fouls on Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain in the final stages of the game. While there’s no way to truly prove what happened, fans have wondered if Wemby could get in trouble for that situation.

Wemby appeared to send a message before two brutal fouls suddenly landed on Jared McCain

As it turns out, Wembanyama received a warning from the NBA following Game 5. But it had nothing to do with the McCain drama. Instead, Wemby did something else to upset the league.

Victor Wembanyama receives warning from NBA for skipping media availability

After Game 5, Wembanyama decided to skip his media availability session. There was no reason given for Wemby’s absence. Given that those sessions are mandatory, the NBA has warned Wembanyama about skipping another one. If he does, he’s subject to be fined.

It’s clear that the Game 5 loss negatively affected Wembanyama in ways we haven’t really seen before. The 22-year-old is playing the most high-stakes basketball of his life, but he must bottle up his frustration ahead of a do-or-die Game 6 in San Antonio on Thursday night.
