The left-handed St Cross Symondians opener struck a mighty 182 as the defending Premier champions posted a thumping 377 before bowling Hampshire’s shell-shocked Academy youngsters out for 131 to win by 246 runs.

Just for good measure, McKenzie – who works as a cricket coach at the prestigious Whitgift School in Surrey – hit 13 fours as the Hampshire hopefuls spent close to four hours toiling in the sapping 30°C heat.

He added 196 with Felix Organ (87) after Poole Grammar School’s Barney Overton (4-52) had achieved two early breakthroughs.

Several of McKenzie’s six-hits landed on the adjoining Boundary Lakes golf fairway, with another sailing into the cricket stadium itself.

Battered and bruised from their sweaty ordeal in the field, the Academy had little more than pride to play for – but they managed only 131 (Williams 35), with left-arm spinner Charlie Gwynn taking 5-15.
