This week’s episode of Raw certainly highlighted the women of its roster. Three women’s matches took place, with one being changed due to Stephanie Vaquer not being cleared to compete.
Heading into this week’s show, it was originally planned for Vaquer to take on Becky Lynch (again) to determine the number one contender (again) to Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Title. However, just hours before showtime, WWE confirmed Vaquer wasn’t cleared as thought. So the match was then turned into Morgan defending her title against Lynch, in the main event.
Before we get to that, two other women’s matches took place.
First, Bayley final got a win over Valkyria in the third match of their feud that has been heavily played out since June. With Valkyria taking the first two match wins and at the same time sidelining Bayley for two months after their first encounter, Bayley decided the rivalry would be over when she says so. So she decided on a No Disqualification bout.
The two women certainly put each other through hell during the match. Valkyria went through two tables which Bayley quite happily made happen. The first was a baseball slide to Valkyria with a table set up against the announce desk. The second came late in the match before the finish as Bayley went up top for a risky elbow drop.
The final moments had both women back in the ring after the second table bump. Valkyria went right for a kendo stick, but Bayley stopped her and used the stick to lock in the Bank Statement (crossface) to get the submission victory.
Bayley stood tall over Valkyria at the end of the match.
Moving onto the Women’s IC Title scene, IYO SKY had to, for some reason, prove that she deserved a title shot against current champion Raquel Rodriguez.
SKY would go on to defeat Rodriguez. This puts her in the spot for a championship match. In the closing moments of this bout, Rodriguez went for a Tejana Bomb but SKY countered and rolled through to get her pinned.
As SKY escaped the ring, Roxanne Perez emerged and attacked SKY from behind. Back in the ring, SKY was taken out by Perez and Rodriguez.
In the main event Lynch took on Morgan for the Women’s World Title as mentioned earlier. The match was worthy of the main event spot, however, thanks to Judgment Day – – it ended in a DQ. Perez and Rodriguez made their way out to the ring, and at first, Lynch disposed of them on the outside. However, back in the ring, Lynch caught Morgan in an ObLIVion attempt and turned it into a ManHandle Slam. Just as the referee was likely to count three for Lynch to win the title, Perez and Rodriguez rushed in the ring to stop the count, causing the end of the match.
The WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green, who will be taking on Morgan at Crown Jewel, rushed down to the ring to help Lynch. However, the numbers were still too much until IYO SKY joined for help.
Eventually, Morgan was laid out in the middle of the ring as the rest of the women were all laid out on the outside. Tiffany Stratton’s music hit and she raced down to the ring with referee in tow and the MITB briefcase in hand. She landed the PME onto Morgan and went to go cash in the briefcase. Morgan was able to escape before this happened.
