86-year-old WWE and AWA legend Baron Von Raschke has set the record as the oldest male wrestler to compete in the ring.
Baron Von Raschke made his in-ring debut in 1966 for AWA after training under Verne Gagne. He spent most of his prime years as a top heel across AWA and the NWA Mid-Atlantic territories. In WWE (then WWWF/WWF), he headlined Madison Square Garden against Bruno Sammartino in 1977. He later returned briefly in 1988 as The Baron to manage the Powers of Pain (The Barbarian and The Warlord) at the inaugural SummerSlam.
He retired from in-ring competition in 1996. Three decades later, he stepped back into the ring for one final match, setting the record as the oldest male wrestler to compete. WWE legend Mae Young holds the overall record for competing on the November 15, 2010, episode of RAW against LayCool when she was 87. Kendo Nagasaki held the previous men’s record when he wrestled in November 2025 at the age of 84.
WWE Legend Baron Von Raschke Wins Dreamwave Wrestling Gauntlet Match In Historic Comeback
Baron Von Raschke competed in Sidney Bakabella’s Halloween Ball Gauntlet Extravaganza over the weekend. He emerged victorious by defeating Sidney Bakabella, Channing Thomas, Jordan Kross, Kody Lane, Xander Pryde, Gaige Carter, Anna Ray, Matt Hatter, and Dan the Dad.
F4WOnline‘s Bryan Alvarez had more details on what went down at the event.
“So here is the story on the return of THE BARON this weekend. Dreamwave Wrestling in LaSalle, IL, had the Sidney Bakabella Halloween Gauntlet Extravaganza. Von Raschke, who is 86, was booked to sign autographs. Bakabella came up with the idea of having him in the match and pushed all day, and Baron eventually agreed,” he wrote about the WWE legend.
“I believe they did order of entry, Baron was number 10, and he put the claw on Bakabella and Jordan Cross and eliminated them to win,” he continued. The story was that he was Bakabella’s old rival from the Indianapolis territory. It was, in fact, Baron’s first match in THIRTY YEARS (1996 was the last one), and at the time they had no idea he was setting the record for the oldest male to ever compete in a wrestling match. Apparently he had the time of his life and looked like a kid again,” he said about the WWE legend’s match.
