When Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr twice collided last year, much of the talk for both events was regarding the weight, and now amid rumours that promoter Eddie Hearn could switch to Team Eubank for a trilogy, the Matchroom boss has revealed what weight and rehydration rules would have to be in place.
Benn jumped up to 160lbs for the opportunity to reignite the fabled Eubank-Benn rivalry, whilst Eubank Jr opted to remain at middleweight, but was majorly handicapped by the rehydration clause where he could only put back on 10lbs the day of the fight.
Still, Eubank came out on top in the first meeting, but in the rematch it was clear that the weight cut had an even greater impact on Eubank, who was dominated and almost stopped by the man he had beaten just seven months earlier.
Following Benn’s controversial move to Zuffa Boxing and defeat to Ryan Garcia, reports are emerging that Hearn could look to sign Eubank for a third grudge match, seeking to defeat his former fighter.
Speaking at a media scrum, Hearn detailed that, if he has any involvement, the third instalment of this modern rivalry must take place up at super-middleweight and there will be no rehydration clause inserted into the fight contract, in a clip captured by About Boxing.

“If I am on Team Eubank [for the trilogy], that [Benn getting the edge] is not happening on my watch.
So, the fight [trilogy] happens at 168lbs with no rehydration clause and it is a fair playing field because it probably wasn’t a fair playing field [before]. I want to make sure my guy has the edge.”
Benn has previously declared his willingness to face Eubank up at super-middleweight, but it remains to be seen whether a three-weight jump would be of immediate interest to the Essex-born star.
