Cherry hasn’t wrestled a match in nearly two decades, but she hasn’t given up hope of stepping back into a WWE ring. The former SmackDown star says she’d jump at the chance to return for a Women’s Royal Rumble—even if she isn’t convinced WWE is looking her way.

Cherry last competed inside a wrestling ring in 2008, with her final WWE match coming on the August 5, 2008, edition of SmackDown, where she teamed with Maria and Michelle McCool in a losing effort against Maryse, Natalya and Victoria.

While speaking on the Rewind Recap Relive podcast, Cherry was asked if fans could ever see her dust off the character for a surprise appearance in the Women’s Royal Rumble. She didn’t hesitate.

“I would love that. I would love that.”

As much as she’d welcome the opportunity, Cherry admitted she’s realistic about the chances of it happening. She believes her relatively short WWE run hurts her, especially now that the company has a much deeper roster than it did when the Women’s Royal Rumble first started.

“I don’t know. I wasn’t there that long, so I think that works against me. And then now that there’s NXT and all of these people and veterans, it makes it harder for someone like me. I mean, I would love it. I’m open to it.”

She also pointed out how much the Women’s Royal Rumble has changed over the years. In the early editions, there seemed to be more room for surprise appearances from former WWE stars, but now she feels most of those spots are filled by wrestlers already under contract.

“And I think that they’re shooting more for keeping the contracted talent on the Rumbles now. I mean, it was a little bit more of an opportunity when they first brought the Rumble in for the women. But now they have so many people signed that, um, using who they’re contracted for.”

Despite that, Cherry still believes her run alongside Deuce and Domino left an impression on fans, even if it didn’t last very long. That’s why she’d happily say yes if WWE ever decided to bring her back.

“And I, you know, I hate to say that, but I mean, I wasn’t really there that long, even though I feel like we had a memorable team. It would be great. I’m open to it. Fully open to it.”

Cherry may not think the odds are in her favor, but she certainly isn’t closing the door herself. If WWE ever comes calling for a Royal Rumble surprise, she’s already made it clear she’ll be ready.

Would you like to see Cherry make a surprise return in a future Women’s Royal Rumble? Let us know in the comments below.
