Drake has once again brought WWE into his music, and this time, John Cena is the WWE star getting the shout-out. The Canadian rapper gave the 17-time world champion an unexpected mention while previewing unreleased songs from his upcoming solo project, FOMO.
During a special YouTube livestream on September 15, 2026, Drake played around half a dozen unreleased tracks from the project. One of the songs, “I Know What’s True,” featured a name that wrestling fans know very well.
Drake makes a surprise John Cena reference on FOMO
While showing off his luxury watch and jewelry collection, Drake rapped, “Chrome belt, look like John Cena in here.” Drake also showed his belt buckle in the moment, making the reference even clearer.
The lyric appears to be a reference to one of the most famous parts of Cena’s early WWE career.
During his “Doctor of Thuganomics” and “Word Life” era in the mid-2000s, Cena was linked to a customized, diamond-encrusted WWE Championship. The title had the famous spinning center plate. It became one of the biggest symbols of Cena’s run at the top of WWE. The championship also became a big part of Cena’s character and merchandise during that time.
Drake has shown an interest in pro wrestling before and has used wrestling references in his music. Cena has also remained a major pop culture figure outside WWE.
Moreover, this wasn’t the first time Drake used Cena’s name in a song.
On his 2023 track Wick Man, Drake referenced the WWE legend while rapping about emotional struggles. The lyric, “John Cena wouldn’t know emotions I wrestle with,” used Cena’s wrestling persona as part of the wordplay.
Cena has also previously posted a picture of Drake on his Instagram with no explanation. That led to plenty of speculation from fans. One of the world’s biggest musical artists giving a shout-out to one of WWE’s most legendary stars remains a collab we can get behind!
