Mikel Arteta expresses concerns over a penalty incident and Bruno Guimaraes silences Sunderland fans after helping Arsenal to victory.

It took just two minutes for the former Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes to put one past Sunderland, before David Raya saved an Enzo Le Fee penalty and then Bukayo Saka made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the 97th minute.

The result sees Arsenal top of the Premier League table with 12 points from 4 games, while Sunderland are 14th with 4 points from 4 games.

“Making a decision to award a penalty of this kind at this level is unacceptable” pic.twitter.com/YP6pm1iRfo

Despite the penalty save and his side’s win, Arteta told TNT Sports: “(We won but) it could have been something very different. I am so upset.

“(This) is unacceptable. This (decision) can change the course of a season, the championship, and it is not acceptable. I (have) seen it 10 times to make sure, and it’s not possible at this level that it can be a penalty. It just cannot happen.

“In the view of anybody who has played football. I’ve been in football for almost 27 years, 28 years. It is not a penalty in any case, in any game, in any context, in any league. I am so pleased in one sense (with his team) and so worried in another.”

Bruno Guimaraes told TNT Sports: “It’s unbelievable. I feel very good.

“Everyone knows I had a difficult start with injuries in a short time but I’m glad to be back, to play.

“I scored a beautiful goal. It’s a beautiful moment for me and my family and I’m very happy.

“A beautiful goal in a very good place. Everyone knows my past. I had an amazing history at Newcastle but now I’m trying to create a new history here and I’ve started in the right way.”

🗣️ “When I received the ball I’ve seen the space, and I thought, why not? Everyone knows my history and what I’ve done for Newcastle and how much I care about the club… My first goal for Arsenal, so I’m very happy.”

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris said, as per Sky Sports: “Proud and disappointed. These are the two words I have in my mind at the minute.

“Proud because we showed we were really close to achieving something really big against one of the best teams in Europe right now.

“Our second half was excellent. We got the momentum, created chances. A big save from Raya on the penalty. The league is relentless. We conceded the goal but we stayed in the game.

“We created other chances but didn’t score and this is the difference today.”

Here’s the social media reaction after Mikel Arteta expresses concerns over the penalty incident; and Bruno Guimaraes silences Sunderland fans…

@benhatesnufc: Telling them how small they are hahaha

@Seanmcgowan1992: Can forgive him a little after that 🤣🤣🤣🤏 club

@Bailz84: Booed off the bus, booed onto the field, booed every time he touched the ball (before the goal), scored a worldy, rattled Xhaka, game winning goal. Decent night 🤣

@nufc_90: And just like that a little bit of love comes back 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@Sean16340949: You couldn’t even hear the Sunderland crowd until Bruno came on. Hilarious they booed him, then he stuck one top bins and called them a tiny club 😂😂😂

@stevenwyeth: Mikel Arteta so incensed by the penalty given against Arsenal tonight that he didn’t want to talk about much else. Not sure I’ve ever previously had a manager keep steering the conversation back to a contentious decision after I’ve tried to move on… twice @BBCMOTD

@RationalArsenal: Well said @martinkeown5 for calling out what no one else on @footballontnt would. Ballard the offender and mugged us and the ref off for the pen. And the ref… abysmal

@dpgroves6: I thought #SAFC were excellent there. We were unlucky not to take a point and 2-0 isn’t a true reflection, but the score is what everyone else will remember. Brobbey is such a handful, Xhaka was superb, and everyone put in a full shift. #HawayTheLads
