POLE position in our topsy-turvy EFL Championship changed hands twice across the midweek period and William Hill News preview the best of the action this Saturday.
Meanwhile, two teams are yet to register much sought after victories. Therefore football betting odds make exciting reading.
Here is my analysis of the upcoming games I am looking forward to most alongside considered score predictions to assist your Championship betting…
West Bromwich Albion v Queens Park Rangers
- Kick-off: 12.30pm
- Rankings: 1st versus 4th
West Bromwich Albion preview – The EFL Championship’s match of the day! Albion enjoy a two point buffer thanks to the single goal triumph at Derby County on Wednesday.
That was despite playing most of the contest with 10 men because new signing Brayann Pereira was sent off in the 34th minute of his debut for amassing two yellow cards.
Queens Park Rangers preview – On the same night, Rangers enjoyed 72 percent possession at Charlton Athletic whilst drawing 0-0. A second successive fixture without scoring.
Injuries are mounting up too affecting key men Chair, Kone, Dunne and Lamptey. Even so, the R’s sit two points below Saturday’s hosts.
Score prediction: Desmond 2-2.
Swansea City v Burnley
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 3rd versus 23rd
Swansea City preview – Joint second on goal difference. Swansea led the table going into our midweek programme but then lost 3-1 at Southampton to surrender their unbeaten record.
Burnley preview – Winless and one point adrift of safety thereby staring back-to-back relegations in the face. Having been appointed boss during the summer, Nicky Hayen is walking a precarious tightrope at the moment and I predict he will soon become the Championship’s first managerial casualty of 2026/27.
Score prediction: 4-0 Swansea and Hayen sacked.
Charlton Athletic v Portsmouth
- Kick-off: 3pm
- Rankings: 5th versus 17th
Charlton Athletic preview – Two points beneath top spot despite holding a negative goal difference! Charlton have only lost once which was 4-0 at Stoke City last Saturday. They nurse three ongoing games bereft of victory scoring just one goal.
Portsmouth preview – Two points above the dreaded drop zone. Pompey’s comfortable 2-0 home canter past Cardiff City last time out overturned two consecutive defeats.
Score prediction: Wispy 1-1.
Rest of the Championship score predictions for Saturday:
- Bolton Wanderers v Cardiff City: 1-1
- Derby County v Birmingham City: 2-3
- Blackburn Rovers v Millwall: 0-1
- Preston North End v Lincoln City: 1-3
- Southampton v Bristol City: 2-2
- Watford v Stoke City: 2-1
