Manchester United are expected to retain their interest in Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall despite failing to secure a deal during the summer transfer window, according to Football Insider.
The report claims that United identified the left-back position as an area they wanted to strengthen, with manager Michael Carrick keen to add further quality to his defensive options. Hall emerged as a leading target after impressing with his performances for Newcastle, but the Magpies made it clear that the England youngster was not for sale.
As a result, United opted against signing a new left-back before the transfer deadline and are now expected to revisit the position next summer. The club plans to continue monitoring Hall’s development throughout the season before deciding whether to launch a fresh attempt to bring him to Old Trafford.
As revealed by manager Michael Carrick, Patrick Dorgu set to provide cover for Luke Shaw during the current campaign, which means that United are unlikely to address the position in January.
Hall remains highly regarded at Newcastle and has started the season strongly, meaning any potential move next year could prove difficult and potentially expensive for United to complete.
