Southend United head coach boss Kieron Dyer gets challenged to get as many Michael Jackson songs in his press conference.
He and his players decided to mix things up for a good cause, turning what can be a rather boring presser into something fun.
After achieving this secret mission, with journalists and reporters failing to spot it, or question him on it, the money will be donated to a charity.
As heard in a video, he ended the press conference by saying: “That’s great, thank you very much. Did you, sorry, just to tell you, I was challenged by the lads to see how many Michael Jackson songs I could get in in my press conference. And the money will get donated to charity but I got quite a few in I think.”
The video then looks back at all his MJ references:
“Yeah, did everything we expected. Obviously at the club we want to be starting something really good and recruitment is a massive part of that. Yeah, it’ll be two teams trying to dominate the ball and play football. I expect a real thriller of a game on Saturday…
“Number one on a lot on the metrics as well, so it just goes to show that we’re onto something special here. It’s always good to reflect and look at the man in the mirror…
“Yeah, football’s not black or white. There’s always going to be the good and there’s always going to be the bad. We’ve shown a real consistent level of performance at the moment…
“Yeah, we have targets in mind. We have the likes, yeah, we’ve got targets. Can’t name names, but it could be some random Joe Bloggs or a random Billie Jean or something like that. Yeah.”
He then told reporters: “I can’t believe you didn’t clock that. can’t believe it, especially when I said Billie Jean. So, yeah, sorry about that. But I got challenged and hopefully I’ve raised some money for charity.”
The Shrimpers currently sit 7th in the National League table, with 10 points from 5 games played. His side come up against Yeovil, who go into this sitting 4th with 11 points from 5 games played.
Kieron said when reflecting on the Bank Holiday weekend and looking ahead ot the next game: “We ain’t doing a lot wrong, we’ve looked at the five game block and all the data and we’re in the top three for basically every kind of metric there are in in the league, so there’s not really a lot to complain about.
“If you look at the obviously the last two games we’ve talked about missed chances which were our downfall. Second half we have to have a bit better game management. Teams are going to change and our meeting today we watched the first five minutes of of the second half, and you can just see, like I said, I labelled us naive and, the amount of times we turned the ball over, playing the wrong passes.
“So it was good to highlight, but again, when you touched on, a reflection kind of view, we ain’t doing a lot wrong.”
Looking at Yeovil, he said: “Again, want to play football in the right way, tried to dominate the ball, got a lot of players who can handle the ball, have good rotations, really looking forward to the game, cuz like you said, a lot of people think that they can’t match us from a football point of view and try to change up the game and put it on us. So, yeah, it’ll be two teams trying to dominate the ball and play football and yeah, I expect a real thriller of a game on Saturday.”

Here’s how social media users reacted after Kieron Dyer gets challenged to get as many Michael Jackson songs in his press conference…
@Jaidens0307: how he has kept a straight face i’ll never know
@SearchTerry: Very good, made me giggle. The man in the mirror quote actually made me think of Michael Jackson but I didn’t click on the theme. 😄
@Leeso25: For all you pub team managers that do interviews and come out with the usual stuff and take it far to seriously have a watch
@Kaylalula: I did this to @CJPhillips1982 once on commentary to get as many animals in as possible! Just a bit of fun – well done Kieron!
dubcustoms_shaun: Not bad, I reckon I could beat it 😂
peebofit: “A real Thriller of a game” 😂
tillylala: Brilliant. I couldn’t do that with a straight face!!
darrenlewis5: Very smooth. Criminal though. 😂
mcscandal: Shows how good people are its human nature 😂
jswash12: You’ve got certain targets etc it’s only human nature
Nick Rose: I used to do this with customers on the phone back in the day, had some laugh with it!
slangdawg: Dangerous would have been an easy one to slip in there
naija_nas: This Gaffer is Bad 👏👏, Dangerous in fact
Nathan Meadows: Just need to play forward and pass it well… erm… The Earth Song……
Lara McSweeney: Hilarious. It should be a different theme each week for us to guess what it is. 😂 👏
Johnny Clougherty: it. I did similar on TWTD when Ipswich signed Philogene. I wrote a blog about his signing and got around 20 MJ songs in. I did this because people called him Billy Jean. But nobody appreciated it.
Scott Fleming: Bit in a state of shock after that , think you’ve got to be there to appreciate it (that’s 2 more)
Sharon Harrison: Well done Keiron . Great challenge and you done that quite well
Ben Berry: Would have been better without the background music but that’s class.. would love it to be a weekly thing 👏
Gerard Mulreaney: Good to see this. Most press conferences can be quite stale, so fair play, and hope lots of money was raised 👍🏻
