After a respectful build-up between Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron, the invitation to go nose-to-nose, as it often can, resulted in temperatures rising somewhat at Friday’s weigh in.
The pair clash atop an MVP card on Saturday, in Birmingham, England, with each bringing junior middleweight belts to the mix. After getting in each other’s faces and exchanging insults today, they were separated by security.
Mayer, 22-2 (5 KOs), will bring the WBC title whereas Cameron, 22-1 (8 KOs) and one year younger at 35, defends the WBO title.
Neither came close to the 154lbs division limit.
Mayer, also a titlist at welterweight, tipped the scales at 148lbs which was half-a-pound more than Cameron.
The skirmish occurred after words were exchanged. Both were suitable enlivened afterwards.
“She isn’t intimating me, all that yapping, getting in my face, watch now, watch tomorrow,” said Cameron to Sky Sports.
“You’re deluded. Shut your mouth, you are so deluded. I didn’t say a word, you are making things up because you don’t believe in yourself. You’re going to get humbled.
“I’m gonna smash her fucking head in now.”
Mayer added: “She said I’m too slow, but there is no way Chantelle Cameron is faster than me.
“I didn’t know this Chantelle Cameron existed; I like it.”
The pick of the undercard is the world lightweight title clash between Caroline Dubois (134 3/4lbs) and Amelia Moore (134 1/2lbs).
