Trick Williams can attain an opportunity to reclaim the US title from Baron Corbin during Sunday Night’s Main Event in September, but there is one caveat. Corbin laid out the unusual stipulation at this week’s SmackDown. An ally will have to step up for Trick Williams if he wants to earn the title opportunity
Trick Williams’ United States championship opportunity depends on Lil Yachty
On the Aug. 21 edition of SmackDown, Williams continued his pursuit of a match against Corbin for the United States Championship. Corbin initially refused, and at one point during the episode, Lil Yachty attacked him.
This prompted the United States Champion to propose a wild and unorthodox stipulation during a segment with Williams and Yachty. He agreed to give Williams a title match under one condition. “Okay, this is how you wanna do this, fine,” Corbin said. He added, “How about this? Sunday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia.” He then turned to the booing crowd at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, and told them, “Yeah, I said it. Ya’ll don’t worth it.”
The US Champion then turned back to Williams and Yachty and said, “But first, I want him,” pointing at the rapper. This seemed to catch both Williams and Yachty off guard as Corbin continued, “I want Yachty in his hometown. Five minutes in that very ring. If he lives, you [Williams] get your title shot. If I beat him, we are done. And we are done for good.”
Baron Corbin then demanded that Yachty look at him. He asked the other man, “Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is? What do you say?”
Neither Williams nor Yachty said anything for a bit as the crowd around them became increasingly loud. Ultimately, Yachty grabbed the microphone from Williams’ hand and accepted the challenge, much to Corbin’s visible glee. Corbin turned and ominously stated, “Good. This is gonna be the longest five minutes of your life.” He then threw the microphone and walked away, leaving the other two men in the ring.
So, a match between Yachty and Corbin on Sunday Night’s Main Event could pave the way for developments in the title picture. If the former survives five minutes, Williams will get his title opportunity.
