Manchester United are the most popular team among William Hill News punters to win the Premier League ahead of tomorrow’s season opener, while Bukayo Saka has attracted more than a third of all money staked on the Player of the Year market.
Michael Carrick’s men – who are 9/1 for their first league title since 2013 – account for 16.6% of all bets placed on the Premier League outright, making them the most-backed side ahead of Chelsea (13.7%), Tottenham (10.8%), Liverpool (10.2%) and Arsenal (10.1%).
Carrick will begin his first full season as United head coach after signing a contract through to 2028.
Arsenal – market favourites at 6/5 – have attracted the biggest financial backing in the title betting, accounting for 31.4% of all money staked.
The Gunners are set to begin the 2026/27 campaign against newly promoted Coventry City in Friday’s season opener.
Elsewhere, João Pedro is the most popular selection to finish as the Premier League’s Top Goalscorer, accounting for 15.1% of all bets, ahead of Alexander Isak (13.7%), Viktor Gyökeres (8.1%) and Cole Palmer (7.2%).
The Brazilian striker is 12/1 in the betting behind Erling Haaland (8/13) and Isak (8/1).
Newcastle United dominate the relegation market, accounting for 34.1% of all bets and 34.3% of all money staked, with punters piling into their price of 8/1 to start next season in the Championship.
The biggest split between popularity and financial backing comes in the Player of the Year market, where Martin Ødegaard (20/1) is the most-backed player by number of bets at 11.7%, but Bukayo Saka (9/1) accounts for a huge 35.2% of all stakes.
Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “The new Premier League season is finally upon us and our markets tell an interesting story before a ball has even been kicked.
“Manchester United are the team our punters have backed most to win the title, accounting for 16.6% of all bets, although when it comes to where the most money is going, Arsenal are way out in front with 31.4% of all stakes.
“There are some equally interesting patterns elsewhere. João Pedro is the most popular Top Goalscorer pick by number of bets, while Newcastle account for more than a third of all relegation stakes.
“Perhaps the clearest example of punters putting their money where their mouth is comes in the Player of the Year market, where Martin Ødegaard is the most popular selection but fellow Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka is responsible for more than a third of all the money staked.”
