David Storch speaks on the prospect of Jamie Vardy signing for Sheffield Wednesday, with the free agent keeping fitness in the meantime.

His last played for Cremonese, scoring 7 goals in 29 appearances for the side who ended up being relegated from Serie A, leading to his departure at the end of the season.

He also won a Serie A Player of the Month award for November, becoming the first English player to manage such an achievement.

But now he’s looking for a new club, a return to English football a possibility with a number of clubs looking at him.

🗣️ Here’s what @storchyowl has had to say on the prospect of Jamie Vardy signing this morning on @talkSPORT 👀🦉#SWFC #WAWAW pic.twitter.com/V7wyc4aRZn

Regarding Jamie Vardy, Sheffield Wednesday’s David Storch told the talkSPORT Weekend Breakfast Show, as reported by The Star: “At some point I’ll be able to tell a story. This might not be the right time. yeah, Jamie is somebody that we would like to have in our club.

Asked if he would like to have that conversation sooner rather than later, he replied: “Let’s just say he’d be somebody that we would be thrilled to have on the club.

“And unfortunately, we are we do have these restrictions. We’re trying to figure out how to get around the restrictions to put something in front of Jamie that would make sense for him.

He continued: “The club is handicapped. We came out of administration with certain restrictions on what we could and couldn’t do, and I was less informed in terms of how it actually would play out.

“And unfortunately, it’s played out a little harder than we expected. But yeah, at the same token, I think we have one of the greatest sporting directors in the game, and Simon (Wilson) is figuring it out, and I have a lot of confidence that by the time this campaign is over, we will have given a very good accounting for ourselves.”

Whether it can be done or not, just being able to talk about possibly signing Jamie Vardy – as David Storch has done on talkSPORT – is evidence of the 360 degree turnaround at #SWFC . And I don’t think Storch gives lip service to things he thinks CAN’T be done.

Explaining more on the rebuild, work behind the scenes: “At this moment right now there are 100 work orders that are being executed against. We have major projects like creating enough water flow into the stadium. Hot water into the stadium. We have a Wi-Fi program going on. We have to change some new elevators out. The food and beverage is going to be very different. The quality of the food will be improved. We have Delaware will be providing the food. We’re going to try and make it easier to get in and out of the stadium. We’re going to try and make it easier to buy merchandise. The store will be up and running by Monday.

“We have the job that the guys from Umbro have done is just unreal because we, first met with the head guys of Umbro at the end of March. At that point in time, we didn’t own the club. I couldn’t make a commitment. And yet they went ahead and had a good feeling about the meeting and felt that, you know, things would progress to the point where they could possibly come in and build us kits.

“The typical lead time for new kits for a season or 18 months or more. We’ve actually already placed the kits for the 27-28 season. We convinced the Umbro folk. We hired a design firm, Peter and Paul, local design firm, who’ve done great work for us all around the stadium, but also helping us on the kits. And sure enough, we will have kits in the store and kits on the players’ backs.

“Pretty remarkable what Umbro was able to achieve in such a short window.”

    VARDY’S NEXT CLUB ODDS:

    As per talkSPORT:
    West Ham – 2/1
    Sheffield Wednesday – 2/1
    Leicester – 5/1
    Wrexham – 8/1
    Any Italian Club – 8/1
    Any MLS Club – 12/1
    Newcastle – 12/1
    Millwall – 16/1
    Any Spanish/Dutch/Italian/Portugese/Turkish/German – 16/1

Here’s how fans reacted after David Storch speaks on the prospect of Jamie Vardy signing for Sheffield Wednesday…

    @GrantR_1867:
I’d temper your expectations on the Vardy thing.
Is there a possibility he’ll sign? Yes, absolutely.
Will it happen? No, probably not.
But imagine having this conversation this time last year…
    Perspective!
    #swfc

@NuMindFitness: If they can do it, I think it would be a smart move. Vardy has definitely got enough in his locker for league one, commercially it makes sense & it’s the sort of coup that would attract other players to sign for a chance to play alongside him… get it done!!

@lu_wtid: Anyone else got Rhodes PDSD 😬 #swfc

@Pearceg97: He must be confident of landing him and trying to put pressure on the efl publicly just like he did with is statement about the -15

@Gurdie1867: Even if it were for one season I’d absolutely love it

@tcswfc: shirt sales would be through the roof , get it done I beg

    @Jinja_Owl:
Not the smartest thing to say publicly in my opinion.
    1) Our fans will have heard there ‘He’s signing and we’re gonna win the league’
    2) Saying we’re ’trying to get around the EFL restrictions’ can be misunderstood as ‘we’re trying to cheat the system.
    Learning curve?

@Owen_wawaw_s6: Sounds like vardy not dead in the water #swfc
