Floyd Schofield Jr. finally has his world title opportunity, but Lucas Bahdi gives him a dangerous opponent for the vacant WBA lightweight belt on October 10.
Schofield and Bahdi have reached an agreement for the fight, eliminating the need for the WBA purse bid that had been postponed while Golden Boy and Most Valuable Promotions continued negotiations. Manouk Akopyan reports that Las Vegas is the planned location.
Schofield’s manager Michael Miller told The Ring that they are “99% sure” the fight will land in Las Vegas.
The opportunity gives Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) another chance to establish himself near the top of the lightweight division after his planned challenge of Shakur Stevenson fell apart in February 2025. Schofield withdrew during fight week because of illness, leaving him without the title opportunity he had aggressively pursued.
He responded four months later by stopping former junior lightweight champion Tevin Farmer in the first round. That remains Schofield’s most recent fight.
Bahdi (20-0, 15 KOs) brings considerably more danger than his name recognition might suggest. The 32-year-old Canadian produced a crushing sixth-round knockout of Ashton Sylve in July 2024, turning a fight he was losing into the biggest win of his career.
The WBA has Schofield ranked No. 1 and Bahdi No. 2 at lightweight. The vacant championship previously belonged to Gervonta Davis.
Schofield has the speed, youth and greater exposure, but Bahdi has already shown he can change a fight with one punch. That makes October 10 more than an opportunity for Schofield to collect an available belt.
He still has to get past a puncher capable of ruining the plans that come with it.
