Interviewer: “Right, joined here by very happy owner Ian, club captain Mark and assistant Dave after a big night in Clevedon where we roll away with all three points. Still unbeaten, top of the table, amazing night for…”
Ian: “So here we go. Firstly, Clevedon, fucking absolute joke. Money, money, money and can’t do fuck all because there are a of mugs. So there’s that one out the window. We’ll get that one out the way first.
“They’re telling everyone how they’re going to walk this league, bash everybody. We’re going to do this, we’re going to do that.
“Yeah, all right, well they haven’t done that tonight to Bridgwater. No man in the match for Bridgwater, but here’s a thousand pounds. Mark, the captain, will take the thousand pounds. That’s for MOTM… the whole team towards the end of the season. Hope they don’t keep doing it every week, so I’ll be skint. You know what mean? So here we go.
“Dave Pearse, best manager in the league. I’ve said it all along. I’ve got him back in. Best manager in the league? Best manager in the league? Dodgy vice chairman. No I’ve got the best captain in the league.
“I’ll tell you what it’s about. I’ll tell you what it’s about. It’s not about money and that, because no one is spent like Clevedon. If I was the Clevedon owners, I’ve got to be honest with you, their boys would be getting the sack in the morning. Scandalous, all that money they’re paying. Scandalous.
“So Dave, what you got to say?”
Assistant manager Dave Thorne: “The shift from the lads tonight was absolutely incredible. We’ve been disciplined all night, got the goals and just nullified everything we had. Every single lad out there has worked their absolute nuts off. And that’s all we can ask from him.”
Ian: “Question, was James Murray took off? That superstar called Jay Murray?”
Dave: “Yes, I think he might have been.”
Ian: “Was that because he didn’t do anything? Maybe.”
Dave: “OK. Mark, what you saying?”
Mark: “Just to echo what you both said really. Unbelievable squad. We’ve got 20 lads that could start each game, the discipline, the togetherness that’s been built since pre-season and probably at the back of last season is just coming together. We’ve got a hell of a lot to do. Don’t get me wrong, but tonight was a great shift, we didn’t play much football in the second half but that was kind of like how the game went really. Really disciplined, all the boys were at it and we got a kick on now, we’ve done absolutely nothing yet so a great start but we keep building momentum and look forward to the next game.”
Ian: “A lot of players here tonight from other clubs, lots. Our friends at Portishead, for one, lots of their players now. Everybody wanting to see Bridgwater win. What does that tell you about this lot here? What does it tell you? Are they trying to sort out step five?”
“Honestly, as I walked off their manager said to me, it was all them. Well, they made two mistakes. Why would you say that to an owner of another club? You know what mean? So that’s why they’re getting it off everybody.
“They’ve come here, mate. I’ve watched them already beat somebody. They only just did it. Old people, not worth their money here. Let’s see what happens. See if they put some more money in. Because one thing’s for sure, carry on like this, we can match anybody anyway. Everyone knows that. We just choose to have what we’ve got around us. Good people that aren’t here for the money. No one’s at Bridgwater for the money. Do you agree?”
Dave: “Yep.”
Ian: “No one’s a breezy for the money. Even this big fucker we just brought in. He’s here because he wants to be part of it.”
Mark: “Say as well, all the boys, especially in the attack, the shift they put in defensively, incredible. Shout out to all the boys. Great debut from Shea today. Obviously Will’s been flying. Keep our heads there, keep moving forward and enjoy the night. Great shout out to the fans as well. Great turnout from the Clevedon fans as well. Made a really good atmosphere of it.”
Ian: “Just, with me, we’ve always, every year, everyone’s pressuring Bridgwater, pressuring Bridgwater because of the money we put in. No one’s saying anything about Clevedon and they’re trying to get everybody. Couple of players we’ve gone for, we’re playing more. Do you understand what I mean? It’s normally Bridgwater that gets it, it’s me that gets it as an owner. So it is lovely to sit here tonight with my two boys, or two of my boys, laughing my head off, thinking, huh, yeah, really?
“And all I’ll say is… if it ain’t us, which it might not be, come on Portishead.”
You thought that was good?
It’s gonna get ever better.
