Cruz returns after battling Lamont Roach Jr. to a draw last December, keeping his place among the division’s leading names. The 28-year-old Mexican previously rebounded from his defeat to Jose Valenzuela by defeating Angel Fierro and Omar Salcido, putting together another strong run at 140 pounds.
“I’m extremely motivated to return to the ring on September 19,” Cruz said. “I know that Bravo is very hungry and hoping to pull off the upset, but I also have a very clear goal, to keep proving that I belong among the elite.”
Bravo enters the biggest opportunity of his professional career following a one-punch knockout of Pedro Campa in January. The 32-year-old Puerto Rican owns a 24-1 record with 17 knockouts, and his lone defeat came by split decision against Xolisani Ndongeni in March 2025. Before that setback, Bravo opened his career with 23 consecutive victories and also owns an amateur win over former world champion Robson Conceicao.
“September 19 is gonna be a classic Puerto Rico vs. Mexico showdown,” Bravo said. “I’m very grateful to my team, and everyone who made this incredible event possible. I’m facing a tough, aggressive fighter who comes forward and likes to engage. But I have all the skills and versatility to win by any means necessary. We’re preparing the right way, and on fight night Puerto Rico will have a new champion.”
