WWE used the final episode of SmackDown before SummerSlam for the promotion of Cody Rhodes’ upcoming Street Fighter movie.
During the July 31 show, WWE aired a video teasing Rhodes’ role as Guile in Paramount Pictures’ live-action film. The video also connected his Hollywood role with his current rivalry against CM Punk before SummerSlam.
WWE mixes Cody Rhodes’ movie with his SummerSlam story
The video began with close-up shots of military dog tags inside a locker room. The teaser switched between the earlier promo segment between Rhodes and Punk and another scene where Rhodes is sitting in his locker room with his wrestling gear in the background.
CM Punk’s voice was heard saying, “SummerSlam, I’m gonna break your heart.” Rhodes then picked up the dog tags as Guile’s famous theme music played in the background.
The video promoted Street Fighter while also building hype for Rhodes’ SummerSlam match against Punk. It was a simple way for WWE to advertise Rhodes’ film without taking attention away from his upcoming title match against Punk.
Rhodes will play Guile in Paramount Pictures’ live-action Street Fighter movie, which is set to release in theaters on October 16, 2026.
Guile is one of the most famous characters in the Street Fighter series. He is a U.S. Air Force Major known for his flat-top haircut, military outfit, and signature moves like the Sonic Boom and Flash Kick.
The official trailer has already shown Rhodes wearing Guile’s classic camouflage costume and hairstyle inspired by the video games.
Moreover, Rhodes won’t be the only WWE star appearing in the film. His longtime rival Roman Reigns has also joined the cast and will play the villain Akuma.
Having both Rhodes and Reigns in the cast gives wrestling fans another reason to check out the film. It also continues WWE’s recent push to get its stars involved in major Hollywood projects.
