RJ City may have joked about “AEW Radio,” but Tony Khan says AEW’s answer to WWE’s growing media empire is very real, because an AEW podcast network is in the works.

Speaking during the AEW Redemption post-show media scrum, Khan was asked whether WWE’s takeover of SiriusXM’s wrestling programming had sped up plans for an AEW podcast network. His answer was simple—those plans have been in motion for a long time, and they’re still moving full speed ahead.

“We’ve been working on it. We’re still planning an AEW podcast network with our friends, so it’s coming.”

Khan made it clear this isn’t a new idea born out of WWE Radio. According to the AEW president, the project has been quietly developing behind the scenes for quite some time, and he expects it to become a major part of the company’s future media strategy.

“It’s been in the works for quite a while, and it’s still in the works. It’s gonna be very good. I’m looking forward to the AEW podcast network, as we’ve been planning it for a while, so it’s going to be excellent.”

The timing couldn’t be more interesting.

Khan’s comments come just days after WWE officially launched WWE Radio on SiriusXM, a move that dramatically reshaped the platform’s wrestling lineup. The announcement also came shortly after Thunder Rosa confirmed she was leaving Busted Open following four years on the show, ending weeks of speculation that began when WWE unveiled its new partnership and the AEW star was noticeably absent from every official announcement.

Before Rosa confirmed her departure, Dave Meltzer reported that people close to the situation believed an AEW wrestler remaining on a WWE-controlled platform simply wasn’t realistic.

Then came RJ City. During Mystery Wrestling 27, the AEW personality jokingly announced the launch of “AEW Radio,” saying he and Tony Schiavone would host an early morning show on a local station in Duluth. At the time, it sounded like nothing more than a timely joke aimed at WWE’s new radio venture.

Now, with Khan publicly confirming that an AEW podcast network is still on the way, that joke suddenly doesn’t feel quite so far-fetched. Exactly what the network will include—and which AEW names will headline it—remains unknown. But one thing is now clear: AEW isn’t sitting back while WWE expands its reach outside the ring.
