Aston Villa are the first team to be confirmed to have made an official bid for Alejandro Garnacho this summer.

The World Cup kept the transfer market a little bottled up – now the tournament has ended, things are about to really get excited.

Chelsea are about to confirm a deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, and are ready to let Alejandro Garnacho go to create space in the squad. There has been talk about a few teams being interested, and Fabrizio Romano has just dropped a major update on one of them.

Romano has just Tweeted that Aston Villa have followed up their enquiry about Garnacho over the weekend with an “official bid” today.  Their manager Unai Emery has “approved” the Argentine as a target.

Chelsea are insisting they want a permanent deal, while Villa so far are offering a loan with a buy clause. Chelsea will probably be open to that – but it will all depend on the terms of the clause. They will want it close to guaranteed. The Blues paid £40m for Garnacho a year ago, and will probably want at least that much to move him on now.

Garnacho seems open to the move, and Romano says that there are “talks ongoing” over his contract.

    In other news…

Arsenal are competing with Chelsea to sign John Stones from Manchester City, and it really feels like something that could go either way.

Whether it’s Stones or not, Chelsea are getting serious about signing a new defender, and there have been meetings in New York between ownerships about one in particular.
