Harry Kane addresses the post-match England interviews from Thomas Tuchel and Jude Bellingham following the win against Norway.

After a 2-1 victory in the World Cup quarter final, Tuchel was unimpressed with the performance against Norway. But Bellingham defended his teammates.

Now Kane has given his reaction after being asked as attention now turns to the semi final against Argentina on Wednesday night.

Jude Bellingham is asked about England’s manager calling their performance against Norway “lucky”. He says, “maybe (Tuchel) doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those conditions”.https://t.co/ev1XIruUmk pic.twitter.com/s67BH8ULQd

Tuchel said to ITV’s Gabriel Clarke: “We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today. The result is fantastic, we’re in the last four. It’s amazing. I’m not happy with the performance.

“In every sense. The commitment is there but we made life very, very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played. Sloppy, tactical mistakes, not fast enough. Not repetitive enough. We were lucky enough.”

Asked was it down to mentality, Tuchel replied: “Mentality? This is pure mentality now. How can you talk about mentality now? This is pure mentality.”

“It’s not a mentality problem. You can bottle it up and sell it. Why are you talking about mentality?

“It’s the quality of our game [that’s the problem]. It’s about quality, we need to play better.

“We will get better, we need to get better. Now it’s celebrations. Now it’s taking it all in. We need everything to make a better performance.”

On Bellingham: “Enough said, he does it every match. World class.”

Jude Bellingham to ITV when asked about Tuchel’s comments on England’s performance: “Yeah, well. Whatever. Whatever.

“It’s difficult out there. It’s a tough shift. All the players are putting in a tough shift. So my thoughts and appreciation go to the players who put in a good shift out there.”

Interviewer Kelly Somers: “The manager said after the Norway game that he still felt there was more to come from England in terms of the performance. How were his comments received in the dressing room?”

Kane replied: “Yeah, I think we understand it. think players on the pitch know more than anyone when you’re playing well, when you’re not playing well. That is part and parcel of football.

“We understand what the boss meant and the boss has been so complimentary about us as a group and he said as well from the mentality point of view, which is sometimes the hardest part to get, we’re at the highest, highest level and we have been for a period of time now.”

Interviewer: “What did you make of Jude’s response?”

Kane: “Yeah, when you’re playing a game, especially a game like that, and you get asked a question two minutes after the, five minutes after the final whistle, when he hasn’t really known what the manager’s really said, it’s like, what do want Jude to say? You know what I mean?

“Like, we’ve just been through a battle, it was really tough out there. I think it’s easy to try and create this division. It always seems to be maybe an English mentality, an English thing to do at these major tournaments, but it’s the complete opposite.

“You know, the group is where we are because of our togetherness, not just the players but the coach and the staff and everyone who’s involved.

“So yeah, things just get sometimes made out so much more than what they really are.”

Interviewer: “Is it perhaps also that Thomas is a bit more of a direct manager than maybe England fans have been used to hearing from?”

Kane: “Maybe. Wears his heart on the sleeve and I think people appreciate that as well. The honesty, the emotion, the feeling, you get all of that when he talks, you know, it’s never scripted, it’s never, it’s just purely what comes into…

Interviewer: “Is that what’s so special about him”

Kane: Yeah that’s what makes him who he is. He’s one of the best managers in the world for a reason and his character is a big part of that.”

Love Harry Kane, but it wasn’t Gabriel Clarke who said England’s performance was poor, it was Thomas Tuchel. If managers show raw honesty like that – which I loved – of course any proper
journalist is going to ask the players what they think of what he said! https://t.co/Cm9DuKakfa

Here’s the social media reaction after Harry Kane addresses the post-match England interviews from Tuchel and Bellingham…

@JanAageFjortoft: Brilliant response from leader Kane! That Tuchel / Bellingham «case» is no case. They were both right! And in a dressing room you just joke about in get on with it. Keep calm and carry on

@THFC__Fans: Politest way to tell the English media to fuck off ever

@ccfcfan: This response from Harry Kane is absolutely brillant. ITV & Gabriel Clarke need to do better in future

@bobby9026: Well said kane. The media love to try fuck there own nation up

@charliebayer8: I love so much that he comes to the defense of both. Such a class act.

@Lloyd21CFC: Love this guy man. Hope he wins the World Cup and get that balon dor.

@Wrexit: Well done @KellySomers. Great to hear @HKane address this. The fans are with you even if some journos are not. Obvs, spiking Jude’s post match euphoria was an awful thing to do by Gabriel Clarke. Hope @England keeps him and his bad vibes well away from the squad.

@robsimi: Super that from big H, what a captain, what a leader, all nipped in the bud, now can the media fuck off stirring shit, absolute clowns.

@1875Ben: Well said skipper 👏🏼 Basically telling the English media to fuck off in the politest way possible, hope you’re listening Gabriel Clarke.

@AjV1_: That’s the captain politely telling Gabriel Clarke, Craig Hope and the rest of the English media to shut your mouths and stop creating a divide.

@JRBulman: The players can see it, the vast majority of the general public can see it, the only ones unable to see that the English media thrives on stirring up division & controversy is… checks notes… the English media. And even some of the English media can see it as well.

@garethterry: Harry knows, “it’s easy to try an create division and it’s an English to do at these major tournaments”. Nail on the head, Harry.
