Janel Grant is putting WWE’s 2022 Vince McMahon investigation back in the spotlight, and this time her question is simple: what did WWE executives know, and who saw the evidence?
Grant shared slides from public documents tied to a shareholder case, pointing to material that she says she only learned about recently. One slide claimed that on July 22, 2022, McMahon’s counsel produced documents to WWE’s special committee, including a “graphic” text message. That same day, McMahon stepped away from WWE, and Nick Khan and Stephanie McMahon took over as co-CEOs. The document made it clear that the evidence was viewed as a major problem for the company.
“There is no board of a public company that would have a CEO with this kind of evidence against them.”
Grant also shared deposition testimony where Michelle McKenna was asked if getting those text messages was a major event in McMahon being forced to step down. McKenna answered yes.
“Q. Did you understand that obtaining those text message was a major event in the board requiring Vince McMahon to stand down?”
“A. Yes.”
Grant then pointed to Nick Khan’s deposition. Khan was asked if, based on what WWE knew at the time, keeping McMahon away from day-to-day operations was the right call. Khan said yes, and added that he told Vince the same thing.
“Q. Okay. Once you had the information that you had as of Vince’s retirement, you thought that his — that the requirement that he be absent from the day-to-day operations of the company was a legitimate position, right?”
“A. Yes, and I also recommended the same to Vince.”
The strongest part came from McKenna’s testimony about what the allegations looked like. She was asked if it seemed like an affair. She said no. Then she was asked if it looked darker and more like sexual abuse. She said yes.
“Based on the information that you had available to you when you joined the board, did the allegations seem like they related to an affair?”
“No.”
“It was something darker than that, right?”
“Yes.”
“Something that looked more like sexual abuse?”
“Yes.”
That is why Grant is asking who inside WWE saw the evidence, who got read-outs, and where any copies or summaries are now. She says explicit material involving her was used without her knowledge or consent during the investigation.
“Why weren’t we notified that this was produced? Why were we not told how it was being used? Who saw this evidence? Who got read outs? Where are copies of these images and read outs saved?”
Grant said she is speaking out because she does not want anything like this to happen to anyone else. Her lawsuit against McMahon and WWE includes allegations of sexual assault, sex trafficking and abuse. McMahon has denied the allegations.
This update puts the focus back on WWE’s own investigation, not just Grant’s lawsuit. Grant is now asking what WWE executives knew about the Vince McMahon evidence, how it was handled, and why she says she was never told.
