Newcastle have shared a short and sweet message to supporters as they plan a summer spending spree following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham.

Spurs are set to break their record transfer fee for the second time in the space of 48 hours after they reached an agreement to sign Tonali.

An initial fee of £92.5million plus a further £7.5m in add-ons has been agreed with Newcastle to complete Roberto De Zerbi’s midfield revamp after they agreed to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham on Tuesday.

Newcastle owners PIF have received backlash from supporters over the sales of several key stars, with Alexander Isak leaving in a high-profile move last summer before Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona last month.

    Football FanCast’s Verdict

    Credibility

Newcastle’s decision to part ways with Tonali is not a surprise, with North East reporter Mark Douglas revealing the deal will allow them to spend freely this summer: “Preference was not to sell to Spurs but insiders say fee will allow NUFC to strengthen in several positions with high potential talent and deals being worked on.”

    Finances

Newcastle have now received £125m for Isak, £80m for Gordon (albeit some of that will only arrive in add-ons) and up to £100m for Tonali – over £300m for just three players. The new Squad Cost Rules (SCR) officially start from the 2026/27 season, and the Magpies will now be in a strong position given they will be allowed to spend 85 per cent of their revenue.

    Insight

The Tyneside outfit could benefit from the sale of Tonali if they use the funds to upgrade in attack, where both big striker signings last summer struggled at times in their debut campaigns.

    Impact

Tottenham’s move may deal a blow to their North London rivals, with Newcastle unlikely to sanction an exit for Bruno Guimaraes. Not only are they now in a strong financial position, the Magpies simply cannot afford to lose both star midfielders in one summer.

The Magpies’ leadership are determined to act quickly to reinforce Eddie Howe’s squad now they are free from the shackles of PSR, and journalist Mark Douglas has shared some promising news on their upcoming plans.

Newcastle not panicking with four signings planned

    Bazoumana Touré

Douglas shared an update for iNews on Thursday, revealing the club have already agreed a deal for Hoffenheim and Ivory Coast winger Bazoumana Touré.

The 20 year-old, who scored five goals and provided nine assists in the Bundesliga last season, will join for around £43m, but is not the only man on their agenda.

Indeed, Douglas confirms Newcastle want to sign Tottenham midfielder Archie Gray, Monaco youngster Lamine Camara and Swiss sensation Johan Manzambi, sharing a message he’s received from sources high up at the club.

    Gray must be Newcastle’s priority

At 20 years old, Gray is exactly the kind of midfielder clubs spend millions trying to find, and Newcastle would be getting him at the perfect time.

Gray made 24 Premier League appearances last season, chipping in with two goals and two assists while playing virtually every position on the pitch, even helping out at centre-back during an injury crisis.

Indeed, what makes him genuinely special is the range of things he does well – pressing, carrying and reading the game – in a way that very few 20-year-olds in European football can match.

    Archie-Gray-Spurs

Thomas Frank described him as showing “a lot of resilience” and said he is “made of the right character material,” which tells you as much about his mentality as his ability.

He won the U21 Euros with England in 2025, starting three games as the Young Lions beat Germany in the final, and has Champions League experience on his CV despite still being a teenager for much of last season.

For Newcastle, who need a next generation midfielder who can partner Bruno Guimaraes for years to come, Gray offers exactly the profile Eddie Howe has consistently coveted – technically assured, positionally intelligent and with years of development still ahead of him.

Newcastle’s new Anderson will be over the moon if Tonali & Guimaraes leave

Losing both Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes in the same summer may be a huge blow for Newcastle, but it could see one star reach his full potential.
