As anyone who gambles on the course knows, it pays to feel like you have an advantage on your opponents — often literally! And for Subpar co-host Drew Stoltz, his advantage is defined by the equipment he carries in his bag.
In the latest episode of Emergency 9, presented by Cobra, Stoltz explained the details of his favorite on-course gambling game, “Scotch.” It’s a six-point game that is played with two teams of two players. Two points are awarded for the low ball on the hole, two points for the low total between the two players, one point for birdie, and one point for closest to the pin. If a team manages to win all six points, the total doubles.
“That’s where it gets juicy and you can lose a lot of money,” Stoltz said.

The reason Stoltz loves this game is because the person who is closest to the pin, or “KP”, is in the driver’s seat. Not only to they receive that point, they’re also looking at a likely birdie (another point) and also have a good chance to claim the low ball and low total for the points sweep. But there’s more.
“Closest to the pin, KP, controls everything,” Stoltz said. “Once you win that, you become un-blitzable, so you really can’t lose that much on a given hole, which is why I love it.”
So how does Stoltz ensure he has the best possible chance for KP? He credits his Cobra “flow set” — Cobra’s 3DP MB irons coupled with his Cobra Limit3D irons.
“For instance, I got a short par-4, maybe a short par-3. I got a short iron, a wedge, a 9 or something. I got my 3D Print MBs, which I love,” Stoltz said. “I can flight it down low, hit it up high, right, left, whatever I need to do. I got all the faith in the world in these bad boys from short distance.
Cobra 3DP MB Custom Irons
The 3DP MB iron combines the looks and feel of a traditional forged muscle back with the forgiveness of a cavity back iron. The most forgiving blade on the market, the MB has captivated Tour players by checking all the boxes and exceeding expectations with its exceptional stability and feel.
FORGIVING MUSCLE BACK BLADE SHAPE
A slightly revised shape from the KING MB inspired by feedback from PGA Tour player Max Homa, the MB features a thinned topline and enhanced offset. The internal 3D printed lattice and heel, toe and hosel tungsten increases MOI for stability, and positions the CG perfectly centered and lower than the KING MB to promote higher launch.
EXTREME FORGIVENESS MEETS SOFT FEEL
The 3D printed internal lattice structure not only optimizes weight savings, but also provides the stiffness and strength to support the face and fine-tune the acoustics of each iron to produce the most appealing impact sound and feel.
TUNGSTEN WEIGHTING
The discretionary weight savings from the 3D printed lattice allowed for up to 55g of tungsten to be positioned low in the heel, toe and hosel resulting in the perfect blend of a compact blade shape with a low CG and high MOI that mirrors a game improvement iron.

“But then, when you go a long par-4, long par-3, 4-iron, 5-iron. I go to these little sweethearts, my 3DP Limited, which I had graphite shafts too, which helps,” he continued. “So 5-iron into the green, I know I can hit it high. I know I can stop it on any green, and at the same time with a short iron I can hit any kind of shot I want into there.”
Stoltz’s best advice?
“As long as I can control KP, I’m blitz-proof out there,” he said. “So if you’re looking to take some money from your friends, improve your iron game, check out a little flow set, and you become blitz-proof too.”
