Asuka’s future in WWE suddenly looks a lot less clear after two completely different reports surfaced following her emotional moment at WWE Backlash.
After Asuka lost to IYO SKY at Backlash and shared an emotional embrace in the ring afterward, speculation exploded online that fans may have witnessed the end of her WWE run.
That speculation got even bigger when Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told Asuka is “semi-retired.” The problem is… Meltzer openly admitted he didn’t even know what that actually meant. Meltzer then continued guessing out loud about what the situation could possibly involve.
“So, the story I heard is that she is semi-retired. I haven’t really gotten an exact meaning of what semi-retired means.”
“I don’t know if that means she’s going to Japan and still wrestle. I don’t know if that means she’s going to still do stuff here and there, but I was told semi-retired.”
Now, a completely different update has surfaced from BodySlam.net’s Viper, who says retirement isn’t the situation at all. Instead, Viper claims Asuka is simply away indefinitely for personal reasons. Viper also directly pushed back on the “semi-retired” talk tied to Meltzer’s report.
“I was told last night that Asuka is ‘out indefinitely’ for personal reasons that myself or Bodyslam will not be disclosing.”
“As far as retirement or ‘semi-retired’ like Dave is alluding to, as of last night, i’m told that is not the case.”
So at this point, fans are basically left with two very different stories. One report says Asuka is “semi-retired” — while also admitting nobody really clarified what that means — and another says she’s simply out indefinitely for personal reasons and not retiring.
After how Backlash moment felt, it’s easy to understand why fans immediately started speculating, but right now the situation behind the scenes still seems unclear.
