Competition: Irish First Division
Market: Wexford win
Odds: 17/20 @ BetUS
Two camps who find the moods in their respective camps at real polar opposites, Wexford will welcome the Finn Harps to Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, making an immediate return to winning ways last time out as they signed off April with a deserved 2-0 victory at home against Cobh, Wexford have enjoyed an impressive start to proceedings. Despite spending the whole of last season scrapping it out at the foot of the First Division standings, the Youths have made a string of improvements this time around. Looking to leapfrog UC Dublin into silver medal position on Friday night, Stephen Elliott’s men will be confident of securing consecutive second-tier wins this week. Including a 1-0 win against Athlone Town, Wexford have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous six straight First Division appearances. Likewise, Elliott’s side will also be excited by their extended dominance on home soil. In fact, the Crossabeg-based outfit have won all of their last four consecutive showdowns at Ferrycarrig Park by an aggregate score of 8-3.
As for the visitors, while Wexford might be at the heart of a shock promotion charge, the Finn Harps are enduring what has become a worrying rut. Last seen suffering a late 2-1 defeat at home against Athlone, Kevin McHugh’s side are scrapping it out at the foot of the First Division standings. Including another 2-1 loss against UC Dublin on April 17th, Friday’s guests have lost each of their previous three consecutive appearances by an aggregate score of 6-2. Likewise, along with putting just two points on the board from any of their last five attempts, the Harps have also recorded just a sole win from their previous 10 matchups – a rut that stems all the way back to February 20th. Hit with a 2-1 defeat when they last travelled to Ferrycarrig Park back in August, McHugh’s struggling squad should be bracing themselves for another tricky test this weekend.
