MILWAUKEE, Wisc. / NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Brown women’s tennis competed on the second day of the Milwaukee Classic and Bulldog Invitational.
Senior Ali Benedetto and sophomore Vivian Miller continued to see some of the top talent in the country. The duo played a hard-fought match against a tough pair from Grand Canyon.
“Even though the results didn’t go our way today, Ali and Vivian competed very hard in all of their matches,” said Assistant Coach Sophia Geier. “The experience they gained in this tournament is invaluable for their progress. In the semifinals of doubles, Viv and Ali were one point away from making the finals but couldn’t convert and close out the match. However, I was proud of the way they played to get to that point, playing aggressively and with clarity. Vivian has another singles match tomorrow before we head back to Providence later in the day.”
The rest of the team went against Rutgers at the Bulldog Invite. The Bears split its four doubles matches and finished with four singles wins.
Winning in doubles were the pairs of freshmen Dani Ben-Abraham and Anne Yang and junior Gabby Soliman and freshman Hannah Shen.
Taking their singles matches were Mariotti, Yang, senior Nora Lee and sophomore Phoebe Peus.
“This event is a great opportunity for all of our players to get match play under their belts,” said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. “The focus continues to be on clarifying one’s gamestyle and playing to get better, which needs to be the focus this part of the season. Phoebe played a great match with a lot of clarity and both Annie and Olivia problem-solved well to turn their matches around.”
