Britain’s Neal Skupski and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof reached the Wimbledon men’s doubles semi-finals but fellow Briton Jamie Murray and New Zealander Michael Venus went out.

Top seeds Skupski and Koolhof fought back to win 4-6 6-2 6-3 against Ariel Behar and Adam Pavlasek.

Murray and Venus lost 6-4 6-3 to 10th seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.

Maia Lumsden and Naiktha Bains’ run to the women’s last eight ended in defeat by Elise Mertens and Storm Hunter.

British mixed doubles pair Jonny O’Mara and Emily Nicholls will take on Croat Mate Pavic and Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok for a last-four place later on Wednesday.

Skupski and Koolhof, who are yet to win a Grand Slam together, had fallen a set behind to Uruguay’s Behar and Czech player Pavlasek but secured an early break in the second set to launch their comeback.

After levelling the score at one set each the pair once again secured an early break and crucially kept hold of their serve in a tight deciding set before sealing victory at the first time of asking.

There was disappointment for 13th seeds Murray and Venus and the pair looked out of sorts against the German pair of Krawietz and Puetz.

Murray and Venus missed three break points in the third game of the opening set and never looked like threatening after that.

They gave up an early break in the second set and although they saved match points to make the German duo serve it out, Krawietz and Puetz duly secured victory.

Murray, 37, had said after their fourth-round win that the Wimbledon men’s doubles title was his “biggest goal” and the disappointment was clear as the two left the court with their heads down.

Earlier, Bains and Lumsden fell to a 6-2 6-1 defeat against the more experienced third seeds Hunter and Mertens.

The duo had become the first British women’s doubles pair to reach the last eight since 1983.

Bains and Lumsden, both 25, caused an upset in the first round, defeating 11th seeds Anna Danilina and Xu Yifan, before downing Magda Linette and Bernarda Pera, two players who were seeded in the singles draw, in two hours and 36 minutes in round two.

But the duo of Hunter and Mertens, who was seeded 28th in the singles, proved to be a step too far for the pair.

Early breaks in both sets cost them and, despite having opportunities of their own to break their opponents’ serve, they were unable to take their chances in front of an encouraging home crowd.

Nerves seemed to have got the better of them as between them Lumsden and Maia racked up seven double faults and 13 unforced errors to Hunter and Mertens’ three and seven, respectively.
