Wales squad member Cai Evans has signed for the Dragons ahead of next season.
The full-back, who can also play fly-half, leaves the Ospreys after making 34 appearances since making his debut in 2017.
The Ospreys had been keen on keeping hold of the 24-year-old, while Cardiff were also understood to be interested, but it’s Dai Flanagan’s side who have won the race for his signature.
He joins Dan Lydiate, Dane Blacker and Corey Baldwin as the Dragons’ new signings ahead of next season.
The former U20s international is currently out in Switzerland with Wales, having been called up by the senior squad for the first time ahead of this year’s World Cup.
Evans, son of Wales and Lions legend Ieuan, said: “I’m delighted to be joining the Dragons and immersing myself in a new environment.
“I’ve got a strong existing relationship with Dai, having been coached by him through age-grade rugby, and I’m determined to be a strong addition to an exciting group of young and ambitious players.”
He added: “I will always be appreciative to the Ospreys for giving me the opportunity to progress from the academy and play at the highest level of professional rugby.
It has been a privilege to represent this team whilst building lasting friendships, and I would like to thank the supporters, my team-mates, staff and coaches during my time here.”
Evans’ new head coach, Flanagan, said: “We’re delighted that Cai is joining us and his ability to play in more than one position will be a real asset to our squad.
“Cai is a talented young man who continues to improve every season, underlined by his recent call-up into the international set-up with Wales.
“I’ve worked with Cai before, during our time together with Wales Under-20s in France, so know just how dedicated and professional he is. He’ll be determined to take this opportunity with Dragons.”
In a statement, the Ospreys wished Evans well with the move, with head coach Toby Booth hopeful that the Swansea outfit will be able to strengthen their squad further.
“We respect Cai’s decision to leave and understand that you cannot always keep everyone,” he said. “We wish him well on his journey.
“We are still recruiting and as our existing players positions become finalised it allows us then the scope to bring in some fresh players to help take us forward.”
