Road racing round-up from around the UK during the mid-January period

FRED HUGHES 10, inc Hertfordshire championships, St Albans, January 19

It may have been routine wins for London Heathside’s Seyfu Jamaal and Herts Phoenix’s Annabel Gummow in 50:12 and 55:27 respectively but, a little way down, there was a W55 British age group best for Karima Harris with 59:49.

Both overall prize takers had substantial victories of two and three minutes but Harris bettered the previous W55 age group best set by Lucy Elliott two years ago by 27 seconds, as the first age group mark of the year fell.

Harris chased home third placed Kate Rennie, the 2024 British & Irish Masters International W50 champion, whose 59:42 jumped to third on the all-time W50 listings.

“It is a tough race and quite hilly so I found it hard but was absolutely delighted with the result,” said Harris.

There was more behind, as Lynda Hembury, who lies second on the all-time W65 lists, ran 72:52 after taking well over a minute to cross the start line.
