Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry both hit holes-in-one during the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Thursday.
McIlroy, playing his first PGA Tour round this season, aced the 15th hole at Spyglass Hill on his way to a 6-under opening-round 66.
It was the second career ace on tour for McIlroy, who made his first during the opening round of the 2023 Travelers Championship.
McIlroy was joined on six under by six other players, including Lowry, who also had an ace in his opening round.
Lowry’s shot at the famous 113-yard seventh hole at Pebble Beach rolled in and set off a raucous celebrations with his caddie and playing partners.
It was the first time since 2009 there were multiple aces in a round at the Pebble Beach tournament, a long-time fixture on the PGA Tour schedule that is now a signature event with a limited field.
American Russell Henley takes a one-shot lead into day two after hitting nine birdies on his way to carding an eight-under 64 at Spyglass Hill.
Justin Rose, Viktor Hovland and Rasmus Hojgaard are among the six players tied a shot back at 7-under.
World No 1 Scottie Scheffler made his first start of the year after recovering from a freak hand injury while preparing Christmas dinner, and carded an opening round of five under to leave him three off the pace.

McIlroy on his second PGA Tour hole in one
“It’s such an elevated tee that the ball’s in the air and you know it’s on line but you don’t know whether to say, ‘Go!’ or ‘Sit!’ or ‘Spin,’ or ‘Release’,” McIlroy said.
“You’re looking at it and you’re watching where it might land on the green and the thing just disappears.
“It was a good swing, a good wedge shot and it was obviously a nice little moment.”
