Together as Team B.A.E in WWE NXT, Becky Lynch and Mercedes Moné claimed that they were the best at everything. When it comes to allegedly fending off insects and spiders, however, their track records have been far from the best.
At WWE Wrestlepalooza, Lynch and her husband Seth Rollins took on AJ Lee and CM Punk, another real-life couple, in a mixed tag match. In the end, Lee’s team won as Lynch furiously tapped out of the Black Widow submission, though Lynch claims that another factor led to her arm flailing.
Over on Instagram, Lynch shared “unedited” footage of a bee flying near her face while Lee had her trapped in the Black Widow. Rather than tapping out to the submission in that moment, Lynch says she merely swatted away the bee.
“I have recovered the unedited footage which clearly shows that I was attacked by a rogue bee at the end of the match,” Lynch wrote. “I have not tapped out in over 6 years and if it wasn’t for the blatant bias of that crooked referee who so obviously saw that I was being ambushed by the vicious winged insect predator, I would have been declared the winner.”
Did Lynch’s Former Tag Team Partner Inspire Her Claim?
As wrestling fans have since pointed out on social media, this isn’t the first time that we’ve heard such an excuse be used for a competitor submitting in a match. In fact, Mercedes Moné (formerly known as WWE’s Sasha Banks) has used the a similar excuse on multiple occasions, with the latest coming last month after she appeared to tap out to Alex Windsor’s Sharpshooter on AEW Dynamite.
According to Moné, she was simply swatting away a bug that had invaded the ring. Moreover, Moné pointed out that she was not the legal competitor in that specific moment of their tag team match.
In response to Lynch’s recent excuse, X user @Yssavva posted footage of Moné making the same, aforementioned one, suggesting that the former took it from the latter. As further evidence, a second clip of Moné (as Sasha Banks) saw her take issue with a supposed spider crawling into the ring during another match of hers in WWE. In that instance, Mone asserted that she “shooed” the spider away, rather than tap out to a submission.

“That is insane. Becky stealing Mercedes real life experiences smfh,” wrote one fan.
“I love how Mercedes is Becky’s inspo…it’s like whenever she gets an opportunity she gets at her. Its actually funny to me tbh,” wrote another.
As of this writing, Lynch herself has yet to confirm if Moné inspired her recent Instagram post. Nevertheless, fans seem to believe that is the case.
