By Dan Ambrose: David Benavidez says his fight with Demetrius Andrade will take place on November 25th on Showtime PPV in Las Vegas or Texas.
Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) believes that a victory over the former two-division world champion ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) will increase his star power with fans, which will lead to him getting the title shot against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.
The southpaw Andrade will be a tough customer for Benavidez, as he’s got a lot of talent and has been avoided by many of the top fighters from 154 to 168.
This could backfire on Benavidez, as he might lose to Andrade, and if that happens, he can forget about the Canelo fight he’s been pushing for all these years. If Canelo needed a good excuse for why he shouldn’t have to fight Benavidez, he would have one if he gets beaten by ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade.
Canelo & the Charlo brothers have never shown interest in fighting Andrade, and it’s understandable why. He’s a slick, powerful southpaw with counter-punching ability and the type of style that is problematic for anyone.
“We’re going to fight on November 25th. We don’t know the exact location where it’s going to be. It’s either going to be in Texas or Las Vegas,” said WBC interim super middleweight champion David Benavidez to Samp&Chance about his fight against Demetrius ‘Boo Boo’ Andrade on Showtime PPV.
Benavidez looked vulnerable in his last fight against Caleb Plant last March, getting outboxed by him in the first six rounds before taking over in the second half.
The technical skills of Plant gave Benavidez issues, and if the Tennessee native hadn’t gassed out in the championship rounds, he would have won.
“It’s going to be a great fight. Boo Boo has wanted that opportunity, and I’ve been wanting to fight him for a long time,” continued Benavidez. “I don’t want any easy fights anymore. I want the hardest fights that I can possibly. Boo Boo is up there.
“Once I beat him, I’m going to have even more respect, and I’m going to have even more experience in the ring. This is going to be my second pay-per-view fight. So once we get the Canelo fight, we’re going to be real comfy in there.
“Munguia, we were negotiating for two months, and I thought it was going to happen. It was going to be a really big fight, but at the last minute, they pulled out. I don’t know if it was the fighter, manager, or whatever, but they pulled out.
“Then I called Al Haymon, and I said, ‘If Boo Boo is on the table, let’s get him,” said Benavidez about how his fight with Andrade happened.
