Callum Hawkins posted his third victory in the Great Scottish Run men’s race – en route to a marathon date in America next month,

And Natasha Phillips successfully defended the women’s title she won in the same Glasgow event last year with another strong performance on the roads.

Jamie Burns was a local hero in the 10k event with the Shettleston Harriers athlete set to race domestic events following a return from America.

Scotland international, Kirsty Walker, was close to her PB as the Edinburgh AC athlete won the women’s 10k race in 33:55.

There were wheelchair race wins for Joanna Robertson of Aberdeen AAC and Sean Frame of Red Star AC, with the latter preparing for forthcoming events in Manchester and Dublin.

‘It’s always great running through Glasgow, there’s something special and emotional about it,’ said Callum, who clocked 63:25.

‘I love running in this event and every year it gets bigger and better.  Thanks to all the supporters along the way.

‘I was trying to use it as good preparation for the New York Marathon by starting off sensible and then picking up the pace in the second-half. I’m happy with it and look forward to the marathon in New York in four weeks.’

The Scot headed two visitors from England as Tewelde Menges posted 64:14 and Andrew Heyes 64:50.

Scotland and GB and NI Junior international, Natasha Phillips, was a clear winner in the Women’s race with a run of 73:26..

Nyne Mulholland-Stummer, a medallist the previous day for Inverclyde AC at the West XC Relays, was second in 78:16 and Brogan Wallace of Shettleston was third in 79:10.

‘A Good Luck message from Eilish McColgan came through on my phone the night before the race so that gave me encouragement and I’m pleased to defend my title,’ said Natasha.

‘I missed the Scottish 10K Champs in Stirling through injury and that was really frustrating a few weeks ago. So today was about getting round with no twinges and racing the race.

‘I am headed for the Valencia Half Marathon in three weeks and that could be a race where I can chase a fast time if the conditions are good.’
