Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal and his agent have had no talks about waiving his no-trade clause and his only focus is helping the team climb out of its recent slump, agent Mark Bartelstein told ESPN. The Suns have been linked to Jimmy Butler after the Miami Heat suspended him and announced they would seek trade options last week. That led to speculation and reports that Beal could be involved.

The Heat reportedly have no interest in Bradley Beal, which means if Phoenix wants Jimmy Buckets, they’ll need a 3rd team. So I came up with some 3-team Jimmy Butler trades, all of which show why the Suns have their work cut out for them: bit.ly/4h0a1Zz11:03 AM

As agent Mark Bartelstein told Windy, Beal hasn’t been approached about waiving no trade clause. That’s because there’s been no trade offer acceptable to the Heat, & thus nothing to ask Beal regarding waiving no-trade for Beal to come here (not happening) or a random 3rd team. – 10:44 AM

They won’t do it because it would cost so much cash, but if I were the Nets, I would be trying to extort picks out of the Heat and Suns to take on Bradley Beal using the Ben Simmons contract. I’d come up with a bogus injury after to make sure he didn’t interfere with the tank. – 6:13 PM

Bradley Beal says he was surprised by move to bench, Suns have not addressed him about trade rumors
The speculation is Beal was moved to the bench in part to make him unhappy enough to waive his no-trade clause once a deal comes together. We’ll see.

Even if Heat and Suns (a Butler suitor) can find a third team willing to not only take the Beal contract but also give the Heat something (good luck with that), Beal – moved to bench – reminded reporters yesterday (via The Athletic) that because of his no-trade clause: “I need to – 10:23 AM

More on this storyline

The situation drew more attention Monday when Suns coach Mike Budenholzer, in an unexpected change, decided to move Beal to the bench to jump-start the team after it had lost 17 of its past 24 games. “There have been no discussions about trades with the Suns or any other team,” Bartelstein said. “Bradley’s total focus is on helping the Suns turn things around.” -via ESPN / January 8, 2025
Because of trade restrictions for being a second apron team because of its $216 million payroll, Phoenix would have no functional way to acquire Butler unless it used Beal as part of the trade. Bartelstein did not rule out possibly of waiving the clause for an approved deal, as Beal did in 2023 when he was traded to the Suns, if a “perfect” situation came up. But that action is not currently under consideration, Bartelstein reiterated. -via ESPN / January 8, 2025
