Manchester United have informed one midfield target that they are likely to pursue him this summer, with personal terms already agreed, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United midfield targets: Aurelien Tchouameni, Carlos Baleba
Manchester United are considering a summer move for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni as the club assess their midfield options.
Champions League qualification is within touching distance for the third-placed Red Devils, who boast an eight-point cushion and game in hand on sixth-placed Brighton.
United are facing a big summer as they look to kick on next term, including spending big on two new midfield signings.
Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United set to sign new midfield duo this summer
The Red Devils will be very busy this summer.
It was announced in January that popular Casemiro will leave when his contract expires four years on from leaving Real, whose France international Tchouameni features on United’s list of targets.
The 26-year-old was linked to United, Liverpool and Paris St Germain before making a big-money move from Monaco to Madrid just two months before Brazil international Casemiro left for Old Trafford.
United admire Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson but reports suggest the England international favours a move to Manchester City.
Brighton’s Carlos Baleba was a target last summer, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed United have told the Seagulls star they may revisit the deal, having already agreed personal terms.
“What happened in August 2025 is they had an agreement at Manchester United with Carlos Baleba on personal terms. Baleba wanted to go to Man Utd, but Brighton closed the doors. So Man United told the player ‘maybe we might revisit the deal in summer 2026’ and now Carlos Baleba remains on the United shortlist.
“He was a target for Ruben Amorim and he remains a target for the scouting department, so let’s see what happens with the permanent manager, with Michael Carrick, with the club, decisions with the budget and what Brighton want to do.
“There are still several factors, but Carlos Baleba remains a name on Manchester United’s shortlist. And what I can tell you is that that verbal agreement, nothing signed and nothing close, but that verbal agreement between Baleba and Manchester United from summer 2025 remains valid.”
Baleba, who is reportedly valued at a lower figure this summer of around £70m, has been less effective for Brighton this season after having his head turned by United’s interest, starting just 20 Premier League games.

Romano has previously reported United will spend big on two ‘important’ signings in midfield, as opposed to previous claims they would bring in one cheaper option with a marquee arrival.
