Steve Maclin has opened up about the frightening moment that halted his TNA Sacrifice main event, revealing that one decisive voice backstage ultimately made the call when he couldn’t.
The March 27, 2026, event in Westwego, Louisiana, saw Maclin challenge Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship. However, the bout took an unexpected turn almost immediately — and not in storyline fashion.
Steve Maclin says Ace Steel made the decision to stop himself and halt the match
Taking to social media (X), Maclin reflected on the incident, admitting his instinct was to continue despite the danger. “TNA Sacrifice was one of the scariest moments of my career,” he wrote, adding that pushing through is simply how he’s wired.
However, Maclin credited veteran producer Ace Steel for stepping in at the right moment. “It took one voice to protect me from myself… Ace looked at me, calm as ever, and said, ‘You’re done.’ No hesitation. No debate.”
The match had to be stopped less than two minutes in after Santana connected with a heavy superkick that dropped Maclin instantly.
Referee Alice Lane quickly signaled for medical assistance, bringing the contest to a no-contest decision.
Despite early fears of a concussion, TNA President Carlos Silva later confirmed that Maclin passed all medical evaluations and was released from the hospital the same night. While physically cleared, Maclin was reportedly frustrated that the match ended abruptly. This incident serves as a reminder that sometimes the toughest fight is knowing when to stop.
Maclin has long credited Steel as a key mentor, particularly in shaping his grounded, hard-hitting style. This latest moment only reinforces that bond — proving that even “The Punisher” needs someone in his corner to call the audible.
With a brief monitoring period in place, Maclin is expected to return soon. Knowing the defiant star, he is likely picking up where this story left off — just without hitting pause next time.
