WWE‘s Cody Rhodes says an infamous botch from 2012 is actually intentional.
Speaking on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, reigning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes looked back at his Tables Match against the Big Show at Extreme Rules 2012. He had won the Intercontinental Championship after Show accidentally went through a table with his foot after he stepped on it.
While most fans thought it was a botch, Cody Rhodes revealed that it was the plan all along. He also said the Big Show‘s reaction looked real because he often experienced the same situation with chairs in real life. He also revealed that the finish almost didn’t happen because the table almost broke when he performed a disaster kick off of it before the spot.
“Yeah, that’s what was supposed to happen. It almost didn’t happen because I did a disaster kick off the table in the corner, and it did a slight [creaking sound], and I realized, ‘Oh, this was so dumb.’ I could have reversed the finish because I tried to do the same thing he’s about to do in a second. That 100% is the thing that’s supposed to happen,” Cody Rhodes revealed.
“I don’t mind if people don’t believe that, and I don’t mind if people are still caught up in the suspension of disbelief. But that is it. His face is accurate, because that happened to him frequently with chairs,” he said.
Cody Rhodes recalled a real-life incident at a steakhouse when the Big Show broke a chair
“I was in The Big Texan with him in Amarillo when he sat in a chair at the end of the table, and it exploded,” Cody Rhodes said. “Now you have to get off the ground. Now they have to get you another chair. It’s a whole thing. That was something that was happening in his life. He is a legit giant. One of the people I learned the absolute most from. But that is what was supposed to happen.
“There was someone who said, ‘This is not going to work,’ and then he was so happy to tell them when he came to the back, ‘Oh, it worked.’ Then he beat me up pretty bad after. I remember we went from a funny, haha moment to the I do kind of a whirly bird into a table on the outside that was rough. When I get up, you can tell that was a rough bump,” Cody Rhodes said.
Speaking in the same interview, he also recalled partying hard during a flight back home from Saudi Arabia.
