Cody Rhodes reveals the advice Randy Orton gave him when he was in OVW.

On the What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast, WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recalled his days in Ohio Valley Wrestling. He then revealed the advice Randy Orton gave him and the other wrestlers.

Rhodes shared that Orton told the OVW trainees to have fun. Because once they’re on the road, it’s going to be a whole different game.

“I remember Randy came down to OVW, and he told everybody there he was doing a match at Six Flags. He didn’t have much to say, but they gathered us up for his speech.

“He just said, ‘Make sure you’re having fun,” Cody Rhodes continued. “Because the moment you go on the road, it’s still fun, but it’s a very different type of fun and it’s a business.’ He said, ‘This group, you’ll never forget who you trained with, that funny moment when you were watching PLEs or pay-per-views on your couch, thinking about when that would be me. Or when your friend got called up and you got to see it firsthand and knew how real it was.’ Yeah, that time period is so much fun.”

Cody Rhodes Considered Going Back To School After 2016 WWE Exit

During his recent interview on the All The Smoke podcast, Cody Rhodes talked about whether he doubted himself during his time away from WWE after 2016. He said he even considered going back to school.

“Oh my gosh, all the time,” Cody Rhodes admitted. “I thought about going and getting a degree because in Georgia, if you have a degree, you can be a wrestling coach. (Growing up) I was really into amateur wrestling. I was the only one in my family who did folkstyle, freestyle, Greco-Roman. I thought I’d be a really good coach.

“And I never thought about a plan B, so that was the first time plan B came up. You’re married at the time, no children just yet, but looking to start a family, and you can’t start a family with just nothing, you know, or a little bit of savings here and there from my time with WWE. But I doubted myself. I feel like I doubted myself every step of the journey.”
