WrestleDream Main Show Results
Jamie Hayter vs. Thekla
- Hayter wins via pinfall after countering Thekla’s spider pose by hitting two consecutive lariats. Queen Aminata came out after the bell to celebrate with Hayter.
Winner – Jamie Hayter
Grade: B
This was a solid “opening match”… quotes intended since FTR vs. JetSpeed spilled over from the Tailgate show. It was good to see Hayter get a win here over Thekla. I don’t think the feud between them is over, however, and it looks like it’ll continue into Blood & Guts.
500K Tag Team Match: Jurassic Express (Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) vs. The Young Bucks
The Bucks came out to an ATM-style intro that showed they are basically broke again (They have $32.17 left). It was a funny start to the match, as was Perry flipping Matt Jackson off, and the fans chanting “Oh, you’ve got no money!” at the Bucks.
The finish of the match saw Jurassic Express win via pinfall after hitting Countdown to Extinction. After getting the prize money, Perry put his hands out and looked to make amends with the Bucks. He handed them some money, but the Don Callis Family ran out and attacked Jurassic Express. The Bucks walked away without helping Perry and Luchasaurus, but Kenny Omega came out and told the Bucks to go help. The Bucks still walked away, so Omega ran in the ring and fought with DCF. Jurassic Express made a comeback and cleared the ring.
Winners – Jurassic Express
Grade: B+
This had some really good near falls and apron bumps, and picked up pace towards the end. It’ll be interesting to see how Perry and Luchasaurus and the Bucks’ relationship continues from here, or if they’ll just move on to a DCF vs. Jurassic Express feud. Really solid match, and the post-match antics actually made sense.
The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP) vs. The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona)
The Demand jumped the Hurt Syndicate during their entrance to kick things off. Ricochet was flying all over the place, and this had plenty of great spots like Shelton suplexing Ricochet onto everyone on the floor and following up with a somersault dive. MVP hit a Ballin’ elbow, and the Hurt Business was massively over collectively.
The finish saw MVP hit Kaun with a big boot, followed by Lashley hitting a spear.
Winners (and new #1 contender to the AEW Trios Championship) – The Hurt Syndicate
Grade: A
The was advertised as a tornado trios match, but it was mostly a street fight in all of the best ways. These guys used tables and the barricades, but mostly kept it in the ring. This was fast-paced, but Liona and Lashley still used their power when needed, and it never lagged.

Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Mark Briscoe for the AEW TNT Championship
The finish came when Fletcher hit a Brainbuster on the top turnbuckle.
Winner – Kyle Fletcher
Grade: B
This one had some good near falls towards. Fletcher literally got a finger on the bottom rope to kick out of a Jay Driller. Fletcher used dirty tactics a couple times, and still couldn’t put Briscoe away, which pissed him off. He finally got the job done with the Brainbuster. Good win for Fletcher, and I’m glad it was a pretty clean win (no Don Callis shenanigans).
Kris Statlander (c) vs. “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship
Statlander nearly won it with Area 451, then Toni gets a near fall after Storm Zero. Statlander goes for the Seatbelt pin, then catches Toni offguards and hits a big lariat and Saturday Night Fever. Not satisfied with a pin, Stat goes for a headscissors submission and tries to choke Toni out. Toni is fading, so Stat punches her in the ribs and Toni is screaming, ‘You’ll have to f*cking kill me!’ Stat lets the headscissors go, hits Saturday Night Fever for the win.
Winner – Kris Statlander
Grade: B
This was kinda slow, and more of a methodical back and forth battle. Good showcase for Statlander in her first successful title defense. Toni gave Stat the title and hugged her before leaving the ring.
Mercedes Moné (TBS) vs. TBA in a Title vs. Title Match
Mercedes’ match was announced as being an open challenge, which may be answered by any champion in the world. Before the show, Tony Khan said that Mercedes’ opponent would also defend their title. Mercedes came to the ring immediately after the previous match and gave Stat a backhanded compliment and told her to get out of the ring. Mina Shirakawa answers the challenge, and she’ll put the Interim ROH Women’s Television Championship up for grabs.
There was a lot of showboating early on here, and the crowd was pretty quiet for the most part. Things finally picked up after Mercedes got caught trying to put her feet on the ropes to steal a win. The ref caught her, and Mercedes went for the Statement Maker before transitioning into the Moné Maker. Mina kicked out, and Mercedes got pissed. The finish saw Mina slam Mercedes into the turnbuckles and go for a backslide pin, but Mercedes got her feet on the ropes again, this time out of the ref’s view.
Winner – Mercedes Moné
Kris Statlander runs back out to get payback on Moné for cutting her victory celebration off. Mercedes tries to hit Stat, but Stat blocks it and slams her on the mat.
Grade: B-
For a moment, it almost seemed like Mercedes was going to face Statlander, which would’ve been a fun swerve, albeit a cheap one from an advertising perspective. That said, Mina was a nice surprise here, even if it didn’t ever feel like Mercedes would lose.
It looks like Mercedes will get some time on AEW and ROH TV, which is a good thing for the Ring Of Honor brand. Depending on when the lineal champion, Red Velvet, comes back from injury, we could also see a showdown for an undisputed championship match.
Brodido (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita) (with Don Callis) for the AEW World Tag Team Championship
Bandido’s injured shoulder and dissention between Takeshita and Okada were two of the focal points of the match. They got away from the “can they coexist?” business early and the match picked up pace, but then Okada tagged himself in, which Takeshita wasn’t happy about. Okada nearly got pinned, then Bandido dove on Takeshita on the floor before running back in to help double team Okada.
King got to show his strength after psyching himself up after a package driver and a suplex by Takeshita. He ended up hitting suplexing all three guys before getting sent outside. Bandido ducked a Rainmaker, and Okada accidentally hit Takeshita… but he looked happy about it!
Bandido cracks Okada in the face with his knee and goes for the 21 Plex, but his shoulder is still sore. King takes Okada down and tells Bandido to keep fighting, then dives on Takeshita as Bandido finally hits the 21 Plex for the win.
Winner – Brodido
Grade: B
The storyline stuff between Okada and Takeshita actually aided the match. It was fairly slow for a bit, but really picked up towards the end. (It seems like a theme throughout the night, and hopefully ends with the next match).
Renee Paquette tries to interview a dejected Toni Storm backstage, but Toni just stares off into space. Mina Shirakawa comes in and Toni finally says “We lost everything!” However, Mina says “we still have each other,” and pulls her in for a hug.
“Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Samoa Joe for the AEW World Championship
Hangman Page gets the win after a Deadeye and three consecutive Buckshot Lariats. The Opps came out and helped Joe up after the match.
Joe shook Hangman’s hand… then levels him with a lariat! The Opps put the boots to Hangman, then Joe hit him in the face with the title before The Opps put Hangman on the turnbuckle. Joe hit a Muscle Buster which got a huge amount of heat from the crowd. The Opps left together, and Hangman was helped out of the ring and walked to the back.
Winner – “Hangman” Adam Page
Grade: B
This was a straight up fight. Joe and Hangman gave each other everything they had, and Hangman had to work to topple Joe at the end. It was a solid title defense for Hangman, and the post-match attack was a nice touch. Shibata has been a big babyface the whole time he’s been in AEW/ROH, so if you’re going to turn him, Hangman was the right guy to do it against.
Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley “I Quit” match
This one got bloody from the start after Mox made Darby bleed from the mouth. The crowd chanted “F*ck you, Moxley,” which only angered him more. Darby is also bleeding from the ear, but Darby tells the referee to back off of him. Marina Shafir gets some skewers for Mox, who shoves one under Darby’s fingernail!
Darby chokes Mox with an AEW flag as someone in the crowd clearly yells, “Moxley, you’re such a bitch!”, which was pretty funny. Moxley avoided a Coffin Drop on the apron and then started whipping Darby with his belt. Darby actually called for him to bring it again, so Darby took some more licks before repeatedly chopping Mox in the face. Darby gets his backpack near the turnbuckles and pulls out lighter fluid!
The Death Riders run out and stop him just after spraying it on Mox, then Mox gets a taser and hits Darby in the ribs with it before Curb Stomping him. Mox hits a Paradigm Shift on a chair as Marina and Yuta get two tables from under the ring. Mox tries to choke Darby out, but Darby defiantly flips him off and Mox lets go. Claudio press slams Darby over the ropes and onto the commentary table, which gets a ‘Holy shit!’ chant from the crowd.
Pac then drags Darby back in the ring and Mox immediately hits a Paradigm Shift through the tables at ringside. The crowd chants “this is murder,” but Darby is still in it. Claudio and Yuta bring coolers into the ring and fill a glass aquarium with water. Mox tries to drown Darby in the aquarium, but he still won’t quit.
Mox tries to drown Darby again, but the lights go out in the arena… IT’S STING!!!!
Sting chokes Moxley with his baseball bat and clubs the Death Riders before smashing the aquarium. Moxley looks shocked, and Sting tosses Darby the bat before leaving. Marina gets in Sting’s face and tries to hit him, but Sting ducks and carries her backstage. Darby points the bat at Mox, who dares him to swing it at his head. Darby hits Mox in the ribs and knees then smashes the aquarium glass more and chokes him with the AEW flag. Darby hits a Scorpion Death Drop and a Coffin Drop, then applies a Scorpion Deathlock in the pile of glass. Mox quits!!!
Winner – Darby Allin
Grade: A
High marks just for creativity alone. This was typical of what I expect from a Moxley “match,” even though this was more of a death match than an I Quit match. Seeing Sting come to the rescue was a really great surprise, showing he can still be involved in AEW without wrestling again.
I understand why this match main evented (and went on after midnight EST)… but this was still a long show. The last four or five matches all felt like they had the same “slow start, build to the finish” layout for the most part. The end of the matches were exciting, but they could have mixed it up a bit. The main event ended on a high note with Darby winning, which was the right call.
